Hey,
After getting on a one and a half hour flight from Phuket with our overloaded bags, we have arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We had no place to stay and no idea where we were so someone pointed us in the direction on a YMCA on the other side of the road which turned out to be a place for the disabled, didn't we look idiots! We managed to find an internet cafe and get on the hostelworld website and just booked the first place that we found as we were too tired to care what the place was like. It was bang in the middle of Chinatown which we didn't think was bad as chinese people are ok. Walking down the road to our hostel were lots of posh hotels and we thought we might have got lucky, then we saw this dark red door which said 'Backpackers hostel' and it looked just like a prison and out first impressions weren't that far off as out room was 3m X 3m, had nothing but two beds and a small pic on the wall! The hostel turned out to be ok apart from the room though with internet, dvd player and a bar on the rooftop. Don't think i slept longer than an hour each night without waking up.
Anyway, Kuala Lumpur is a very nice and clean place, must have seen about 15 malaysians since we got there and about 5 billion chinese people. Thought this was malaysia??? Went out one night but every place we walked past was full of chinese people and I didn't fancy being chopped up and put in someones dinner by the triads for looking at someones girl so we gave it a miss. The following day we went to the petronas towers which are the two towers with the bridge joining them which you probably saw in the film 'Entrapment'. We shot up 48 floors in about 10 seconds and the view from the bridge was quality as the pics show. After we went up the KL Tower which is their main communications tower. We went even higher up this tower and the views were even better. The next day we went to the local aquarium which houses sharks, lizards, giant snakes and giant spiders! (Got to get myself prepared for Oz somehow!) Problem was it was full of kids as it was the school holidays. Last thing you need when you've had no sleep is little kids screaming at every creature in the place. It was tempting but we managed to prevent ourselves from throwing the little gits in the tanks with the sharks! lol Apart from that, it was a good place to go and got some good pics of the sharks.
Just booked our next hostel for when we get to Singapore, its got a 90% rating but the only room they have is a mixed, 14 bed dorm, oh dear, imagine that! Anyways we took it and are now packing our bags ready for the 5 hour coach trip. Overall Malaysia wasn't the best, nothing for us to do at night except sit in the roof top bar and get slowly wasted hoping we'll just conk out on the beds and get to sleep, didn't happen though as i kept waking up either needing the toilet or needing a drink. Were out of this place now though and the pain only lasted 4 nights, small price to pay after the best 3 weeks in thailand. I'll update again in Singapore.
