Hello from Melbourne, yes we have finally got here and in one piece.... we managed to put our funds together and buy a beautifull little car called Abi.
Sunday was our last full day in Sydney so we got up quite early and headed down to bondi beach. Will wanted to go to Manly beach so he headed off to catch the ferry while me and Dave decided that we would try and walk it to bondi, what a school boy error that was we thought it would be about a 30 minute walk away from the hostel but it turned out to be about a 2 hour walk away.. not that we would know because after walking in the wrong direction for about half an hour we decided it would be best to jump on the bus.
When we arrived it was coming up to mid-afternoon and even though the sun was still out, their was a bit of a chill in the air so we strolled up and down the beach a couple of times, took a few pictures and had a spot of lunch by the beach before catching the bus back to kings cross.
Earlier in the day a couple of Danish girls had moved into our dorme, so we got chatting to them and Dave decided to cook up a bit of tuna and pasta for us and the girls to try and impress them ( I dont think they liked it as most of it ended up in the bin.lol.). After dinner we had a few beers and went into town for a bit of a dance and a sing song... we ended up heading back around three in the morning even thoiught we had said earlier that we would be back no later than 12 cos we had to drive to Melbourne the next morning...
So on monday morning their was a few sore heads in the dorme as we packed our things said our good byes and went to purchase the car. After dotting the I's and Crossing the T's it was time to hit the open roads of Australia. Dave took the first shiffed driving us out of Sydney and onto the motorway. He said that it Drove like a Lexus and it looked like a Ferrari, well not quite but for 350 pounds each its in good nik... After Driving around 300 kilometers and bypassing a number of dead kangaroos it was time for me to take the wheel. Now baring in mind the cars an automatic and ive never driven one, i was a bit nervous making the change over, but as soon as i got going I found out it's so easy to drive. Another 3hours and 300 kilometers later we reached a small town called Albery, it was just like in the moves with a little church and white picket fences everywhere. So we decided to call it a night and checked into a small hotel. It was really nice not to be sharing a room with ten other guests and having clean towels a bit of brekkie and a hot shower, oh and the tv was an added bonus.
The next morning was the final leg of the trip to Melbourne and it was wills turn to drive but he said that he was feeling a bit under the weather so I said that me and Dave would take it in turn to drive the rest of the way, but not before stoping of for a bit of camping equipment first. We finally reached Melbourne around 3 o'clock in the afternoon and made our way to a hostel called the Greenhouse backpackers which is really nice for a hostel and has won the best backpackers hostel award for the past two years and an added bonus was that their was a free barbi that night. After the barbi we went down to the bar for a few beer and a couple of games of pool and then a brisk walk round the city before calling it a night.
So onto today we woke around 11ish and went down to the Melbourne Cricket ground for the daily tour of the 100,000 seater stadium. It was great even though Bruce our tour guide was giving us pomms a dit of jip. After the grand tour of the stadium and seeing the place where England will retain the ashes, go on boys, we headed back to the hostel but not before stoping for a curry on the way whichwas really nice.
So here we are preparing our selves for an early night cos we;ve got to get up for the cricket in the morning. So night night and come on England.....
