We got to Kings Canyon Resort @ 5.10pm, another beautiful day. Set up camp then went to watch the sunset over the Canyon. In the camp we came across a group that had bought there own musician, he was very good, ended up with quite a crowd around with a few kicking up there heels. We had a few beers and joined in.

This morning after we had packed up we travelled into Kings Canyon to do the 6k rim walk. This was spectacular, first off you had a climb up this rock face, it was very steep, cliffs 30 meters high. We then walked around the rim, there were lots of others doing the walk as well. Talked to a couple in their 70s who were kiwis but have lived in Australia for 50 years, they have just bought a Bach at Taieri Mouth. The views were incredible and the walk was excellent. There has been a lot of work go into the track, where you step up or down the rocks have been cemented in so they don't move. I didn't get too close to the edge but the others did, it made me a tad nervous. One spot where they had put in a staircase down the side of the cliff and then a bridge across this chasm, I started to have a mild panic, anyway got through with some help. We went and checked out the Garden of Eden which was part way down the cliff, there was a big pool of water and vegetation where the water trickled out. It would be very impressive to see the water pour in when it rained. It took us 3 hours to do the walk, at least in the past two days we have had plenty of exercise.
It was then back on the gravel road to our next overnight stop Glen Helen Lodge, 228K. Went past Gosses Bluff which is thought to be the eroded remnant of an impact crater, once again it is another impressive site, this huge crater with massive high sides just surrounded by flat land.
Came across a mob of Brumby,s, not sure what they were eating as still no grass. There was a very small foal amongst them and they all looked healthy.
We stopped and got a load of firewood and were thankful for our campfire as it was cold. Apparently it's the coldest August they have had for years.

Left this morning and had a couple of stops on our way into Alice Springs, the first one was Standley Chasm, $10 fee to walk in. A very small gorge between the rock walls, no water flowing through but would be impressive to see. A wide sandy bottom, you would think you were at the beach.
Next stop was Simpsons Gap, very similar but there was a big pool of water in this one and it was an amazing blue colour.
Got into Alice Springs around 11am, fuelled up $1.77ltr for diesel. The continuing saga of the Defender, hole in the radiator! Spare being flown up from Melbourne tomorrow. Des's Ford Ranger keeps jumping out of 5th gear so called into a transmission place and there is a kit being sent up from Melbourne for that as well. Hasn't really been a problem until now as haven't been doing the speeds but from now on we will be doing some tar seal miles to Katherine.
Will be good to have some R & R tomorrow, hopefully it warms up a bit, going to be down to 1 or less over night!
