Bob and Nicks excellent adventures
Hola!
In response to how many concerned emails and messages offering support, and the recent flood of emails to check we are ok, here is the obviously long awaited report on Rio....Cheers Brazilian Joe, our only friend we took your advice on board and managed not to get bummed. Have you met Irish Joe? you two should hook up for a pint. Go with Harry, his is a diet pepsi.
Anyway - The last week has been an absolute killer! In the space of a week we have done 2 all nighters in Beanos Aries, had an awsome meal with the legend that is Gusavo and family, done 2 24hr Bus trips covering s*** loads of miles, seen Igusu falls.......and then Rio.
The bus trip down to Rio was a bit of a nail, not the luxury we have been used to in loverly Argentina. No films, no big chair, no stinkin food, champers was never on the cards. The trip just dragged like a b**** and as we were in the 24th hour on the sweaty bus, we prayed that 24hrs in Rio would be worth all the Hastle. Everything had gone so smoothly, bish bash bosh, into Iguzu, Bish bash bosh out....We hadnt even checked you could get into Rio from Iguzu, we were just going on the word of some random girl a long time ago in Mendosa. We therfore felt pretty relieved and lucky to have got there, the only thing left to foil our base was the Weather. Reading other travellers blogs recently was a bit nervy because at this time of the year (winter!) you obviously get wind and rain, and you cant handglide when its raining....In the past few weeks they have had a s*** load of rain....Fingers Crossed.
Our trip nearly turned sour pretty quickly because as we got in a taxi...bingo some other kindly chap got in, no metre, 2 blokes in the front and we are heading toward cocokobana ("don't walk there after dark".....it was prepare to get f***ed over time again. We were screwing, and having got f***ed over in Santiago in a pretty similar way we argued with the c*** and wernt such push overs...We held our own, they backed off trying to rip us off so much...we probably paied 2quid more than we should in the end so it wasn't so bad. What was bad was that they couldn't find the hostel, so the pleasant chaps just lied to us to get us out of the cab ASAP and we found ourselved in Cocokobana "don't walk there after dark" lost with all our f***in s*** strapped to our backs. It was s*** yourself time and think of a plan. Luckily we had our trusty rough guide handy, and even luckier two english gizzas popped up and told us there was a decent hostle (the one in our guide) just 5 blocks away. They also said not to bother walking it, but get a cab. So finally we use our rough guide.....Finally it has some use, Hoonin this stinkin s*** arse book around, and finally it comes to some use. Well not really. The address in the book turned out to be out of date. WE were seriously screwing when 10 mins later we turn up at another place that doesn't look very much like a hostel at all....the taxi driver looking at us blankly. WE got a bit lucky here. A women comes to the cab who luckily speaks english and tells us that Hostle moved. It was 5 blocks from where were were afterall. She gives the taxi dude the new address....more money spent and finally we are safe!!!!!!! f***!!!
Expensive drinks. Few beers with your token Irish chaps and an early night. Guess what the weathers like.....Its a freak day.....The warmest day of winter!!!! Pushes 30 degrees!! Hahaha, you should never rely on Luck....We were f***in lucky with the weather.
Well Check out the photos for this one. We drove up a huge f***in hill nearly 1km from the beach. A gizza assembled a hanglider and then we ran and jumped off a huge f***in cliff. Scary....Awsome! f***in Awsome. Hanggliding over Rio is a once in a lifetime...If your lucky... The feeling was amaizing, the view awsome, Landing scarey as f***! Waiting around on a beach full of crazeys for your man to come down pick you up, also Scarey as f***!
Got back about 1pm and went on a tour up to Christ and then Sugerloaf. The view again, was absolutly awsome. Rio is something else. Neither of us have ever been to a city which looks and feels anything like this place. The huge imposing mountains, Beautiful forests, awsome beaches, scarey looking mother f***ers with tatoos...Gangs, Crazy police...its got the lot. It was much more crazy, a much better more awsome place than I imagioned it would be. We weven got to watch the senset from the top of sugerload - It was a f***in cool 24 hrs.
We got up very early and got the hell out....Text book. In bolivia now. Girls don't seem to be as fit, its very poor... and I have spent the afternoon pondering the morels of being a torest in v poor places like this. I made some poor begger gizzas week by giving him a 10 boliviano note on the way back, it just made me feel less guilty and it re-raises the question, is there any such thing as a Selfless act?
Check out the photos.
