I'll keep this one brief(er) because I don't have all that much to report right now. We've just returned to Queenstown after doing the Scenic South route, some four or five days in a variety of rain soaked places. We weren't supposed to return here, but by the time we reached Dunedin we decided Queenstown is the only place worth being around here, and we'd rather come back than ponder about such fabulous attractions as miniature waterfalls and rocks in the sea. They're wonderful and all, but hardly worth weeks of our time.
We went to Milford Sound, which is One of the Most Beautiful Places in the World, and thankfully had a relatively clear day for our cruise there (even saw a penguin). Then it was rain rain rain as we went south, through Invercargill and such. There were a few interesting spots, like a petrified Jurassic forest in a beach, but it was mostly wildly disappointing. As far as being scenic, the route we took back as we fled from Dunedin, crying out in mad screams about how happy we were to get back to Queenstown, was much more interesting to see. The Scenic South is just a bunch of hills.
It wasn't without adventure, our trip; we were ushered out of Te Anau in the middle of the night because it was illegal to camp there, we got the last spot in the campsite at Milford Sound (not knowing that we had to stay there Or Else), and I entered Chraa into a pool competition under the name Chris, The Destroyer of Men. He lost, though. I've just been told there were icebergs off Invercargill that we should've seen. Shame we didn't know about that before. Also, the van continues to provide us with fun filled hours as yesterday we got a flat tyre (in the rain), and when we left Queenstown I drove it into a wooden barrier and punched a whole in the side. For no real reason. I think that was a sign that we should not have left, though.
The skies cleared as we returned to Queenstown, and it's sunny again now. Everything is better here.
(In other news, Mr Lowe has left us again. We may never see him again)
