Our last day onboard Sundowner! Well for Carol, Ginny, Ray, and David it was a very early--taxi at 05:00--start. Their first flight was to Madrid then home from there. My flight for my overnight in Barcelona wasn't until 13:20 so I had a leisurely morning, enjoying the last of my days as a "crew". (I don't think I mentioned that at one of our entries--Michel brings all passports to the local authorities for clearing into the country--he was questioned about the age of the crew. We all got a chuckle out of that as we ranged from 40's to 83.)
Off to the airport I went. Smooth sailing through check-in and security. (Most shoes don't have to be removed. It's more awkward when it comes to the bins, however. They don't move smoothly onto the belt for screening as they need to be picked up and placed there due to a break before the actual screening belt.) I had plenty of time to wander and people watch. (I couldn't use the Club--Air Europa is a Sky Alliance member--because I wasn't either in business class or continuing onto another flight.) I occupied myself with the shops and getting a bite to eat.
The only glitch came once we boarded. It turns out we were delayed due to a storm in Barcelona which was probably headed toward Majorca. At last we took off, landing almost before electronics could be even turned on.
I considered going into Barcelona for the afternoon and early evening, but changed my mind due to our lateness, the weather, and my state of mind. Let me explain. The brief taxi ride to my airport hotel cost €20 or about $25! There is an airport minimum so my €13--still pricey--ride cost €20. Needless to say he didn't get a tip!
The very modern Best Western was lovely for my overnight. Since I was
staying put, I caught up with my blog sipping wine in the lobby. (WiFi signal was best there.) It was going to be an early morning so I enjoyed dinner in my room and prepared for an early wake up call.
