Well it's been quite a while since I wrote a blog so after some harsh pressure on the home front I decided I'd get off my ass and write one. It's almost been two months since I wrote one so quite a lot has happened. After I got back from Dublin I got right back into the mix at work. We have had a lot of band nights playing traditional english and irish music.
For a while we were all going to the bar a lot. Every weekend seemed to be someone's birthday. The women here like to have theme nights for birthdays. The first birthday was Rebecca's birthday. The theme for that night was gangsters and playboy bunnies. I was able to find a really cheap suit at a thrift shop for 10 quid. It actually fits and I am going to keep it as a suit to use on special occasions. It seems to be a theme now on my trips. This is the second used suit I've bought while away on trips.
The next theme night was ken and barbie for Vicky's birthday. By this time I was sick of theme nights so only went as far as wearing devil horns. Both nights we went out to a club called Oceana. It is a huge club that has about 6 different bars with different themes. They have a Sydney themed bar, Canadian Ski Lodge bar, Swedish Ice Bar, and my favourite an old school disco that even had the floor with flashing squares.
The guys at the clubs all seem to be dickheads. As soon as they get a little alcohol in them they act retarded. We were at the club and a guy tried to carry our friend Kim away. Like literally lift her up and take her away and she had never met the guy or see him coming. Jim and I saw it we both grabbed an arm and politely asked him what he was doing. The bouncer didn't seem to like what we were doing and grabbed the guy and threw him out.
On the work side of things I am now the bar manager. It's pretty much the same as before accept now I have to do end of night paperwork and make stock orders.
One of our locals sadly passed away. His name was David Lee. He worked his whole life as a farm hand, working for little pay and a meal. He never had a lot of money. The locals were saying that one night he came into the pub to celebrate his 65th birthday. He was excited until the doctor told him he was only 63. He was upset that he had to wait another two years for his pension. He didn't really have a lot of family but 200 people still showed up at his funeral. Everyone knew him from the pub, which just goes to show how strong everyone's relationship is with the pub.
So now all I'm waiting for is the end of May. On the 27th I'm off to Sweden, Denmark and Norway.
I promise to get some photo's up soon.
Have a good one
Bill
