Well, our first century!!!
It was pretty much the easiest one I've ever done. We had nearly brand new pavement almost the whole time, a slight tailwind, lovely temperature, and it was flat for 75 miles, then rolling for 20 more, only the last 10 or so had some tough hills ( probably tough only because they were after 95 miles)
The best part of the day was the WHOLE thing...riding with Ellen and Mary. They are great riding buddies :) we averaged 15.9 miles/HR over our ~8.5 HR ride. Probably 30-40 min for lunch, and 20-30 min total stops. we left at 6:05 and got in at 3:15 after 106 miles.
Minnesota was beautiful, but our small jaunt through Wisconsin took the prize. The rolling hills were lovely- made for very pretty farm scenery... Kind of like wine country, but with corn, soy and hay!
One highlight in Minnesota was the bird sightings. We saw some birds that were tall in thigh- high corn that looked pelican-like to me. Mary is nearly certain they were juvenille whooping cranes. I believe her, since she's seen them- and it immediately came to her mind. They were nearly extinct and still endangered, maybe our singing "oh what a beautiful morning" helped us find them?!
After that we saw sandhill cranes (2 adults and 2 juveniles)... And right after that a bald eagle!!! Thanks, Minnesota!
All in all a great day. I'm pretty tired, though. Tomorrow it's a small bike into Stillwater- or maybe I'll try to find a way to Minneapolis/st Paul....
