New Zealand Part 2
/02/08 - Set off from Auckland bright and early again on our way to Mercury Bay. Stopped off to check out Cathedral Cove which turned out to be a nice walk (yes i am saying it was a nice walk). Also just to clarify i am struggling to remember what I got up to exactly as it was a couple of weeks ago and this kiwi bus thing is pretty hectic. However I do remember Mercury Bay being a nice place.
/02/08 - We head to Rotorua today the geothermal and cultural centre of New Zealand. As this was the case we decided to go luging, however we did go to an awesome Maori Hangi evening which involved us selecting Ross as our chief to great the Maori's and then watch them perform the Haka and have a traditional Hangi meal, which is like a roast cooked under ground nice. A very entertaining evening. Ross was most pleased that we selected him, not!! Sorry mate! Oh and we also stopped off at a place called Hot water bay where you dig a hole in the sand next to the sea and it fills up with hot water and mixes with the sea like a spa. Very nice except i burnt my feet.
/02/08 - Set off for Waitomo today, another early start. I'm beginning to think this isn't a holiday any more. Had a walk through the Waitomo caves and went to a Maori arts and crafts centre where we learnt the Haka which was pretty funny. Went black water rafting in the afternoon which involved a bit of absailing, caving, and drinking tea in a wetsuit whilst looking at glow worms. Good fun.
/02/08 - Today we went through the central plateau before arriving at Lake Taupo where me and jonny got a job for a couple of days. We basically helped some rich chinese man build a chinese takeaway. Got paid 40 bucks for a couple of hours work which was nice.
/02/08 - Got woken up today by some chinese man asking for Jonny and Ann over the loud speaker in our hostel, I wonder who Ann is? oh thats me! Apparently me and Jonny are working today as well then. Another 40 bucks and a free McDonalds not bad for a few hours. That certainly beet going for a 14km walk even it was 1 of the top ten walks in the world.
/02/08 - On our way to River Valley we stopped off to jump off a waterfall which was absolutely freezing!! We then arrived at our River Valley which is one of the coolest places to stay even if it was a million miles from anywhere. This is the home of the spoon room. 20 beds next to each other hence the spooning! And one of the best roasts i've ever had (not as good as yours though mum).
/02/08 - Up nice and early (again) to go and do some extreme sports. The flying fox was up first, a 1km long zip wire then I managed to convince jonny to do the canyon swing. Jonny actually screamed like a girl and its on the video as proof!! ha ha. Arrived in the capital Wellington a bit later and hit the town. Tomorrow we hit the South Island.
