Hi all,
Another day another city and today (3/9/07) was Shanghai. Very much a high rise city with the tallest building in Asia and the one being built right next door to it is already taller and has at leat another 50 floors to go.
Anyways we arrived at the hostel which was down some back alley somewhere and took a stroll to an over hyped museum (the best in China it was claimed) I wasn't particularly impressed but then i'm not really a big museum fan. Now would be a good time to mention that you can generally get away with being a student in China by showing your driving licence or blockbuster card because they can't read it but NOT HERE, it would appear they knew we were trying to play them for fools. Back at the hostel after a cheeky KFC chinese style we were about to settle down for the night and play a few cards when we stumbled accross the ginger prince (Gareth Price) and his man mountain of a mate (Luke), this quiet night then turned into another quaity night out. Took a taxi to the Hyatt hotel which is the tallest building in asia and went up to the 54th floor the highest they would let us in flip flops and shorts not upper class enough apparently. Anyway had our first very expensive beer at an equivalent of 5 pound and went back down, fun for a bit. We then moved on to hooters, noone could believe there would be one in Shanghai before hitting a club and dancing the night away to Chinese dance music.
Next day we went back to the tall building prepared with shoes and trousers and got to the 87th floor and had our second expensive drink. Then plaid a spot of golf with the self proclaimed professionals of Choice and JB who were clearly not as good as they claimed but it was still a bit surreal playing golf in the middle of a city. We then took a stroll along the Bund which everyone had been raving about which wasn't what it was cracked up to be, probably because we went to the wrong part of it. Anyways trying to get back to the hostel was a mission, the taxi took us to completely the wrong place making our journey 3 times the length and then had the cheek to try and charge us for the whole lot. We eventually settled on half and walked away quickly.
That was about it for Shanghai but city but not a lot to do.
Oh apart from visiting the Ferrari garage to see if we could get a test drive but that was a no!!
