Spent 3 days here in Beijing, with our first experience being instantly getting fleeced by the local tuk tuk cyclist fella (1 of many to come). Not only did he take us to the wrong hostel but it quite drastically overcharged us. It only took a further 4 hours to find our hostel which was a good 5km away. Next day we took in the local sites of Tian'amen square/forbidden city, temple of heaven, before having a few drinks with the fellow travellers. Next day was the great wall of china. Our first main bit of exercise in a long time. A 10km trek taking in the awesome views and sweating none stop for 5 hours. Some "local farmers" walked with us for a good hour or so trying to sell us some great wall stuff, eventually giving in I bought some stuff just so they would shut up and leave me alone so I could concentrate on walking up ridiculous amounts of steps. A quick summary of Beijing - an interesting place with plenty to. Its hot and never really gets very sunny as the pollution and smog tends to hide the sun. Bit of cultural shock to start with but just the start of interesting and enjoyable trip through China.
Next stop Xi'An.
