After spending a fantastic 3 days in New York, I took a flight to San Jose to start my jungle adventure. I stayed in a local hotel called Hotel Aeropuerto which was set in beautiful surroundings just 5 minutes from the airport. I stayed there for 1 night to recharge my batteries. The next day I arose early to get my connecting flight into Puerto Jumenez. As you can see from the picture the plane was very small and when we hit some turbulence it felt like being on a roller coaster - not good for someone who doesn't like flying in the first place!!!
After the 45 minute flight, I was met by Alex, the Project Manager. We then took a taxi into town to where Frontier have a house to dump my bags and have a look around Puerto Jimenez. After gulping down 2 large (and delicious) milkshakes and stocking up on supplies we got the collectivo - basically a small lorry that has been converted into a bus to the camp. After 3 flights and a bumpy road journey, I was finally at the camp in Piro.
Once on site I met the volunteers and staff and had my first in a long line of vegetarian meals. Had a fairly early night around 9:00 ready for my first day proper in the morning.
