hello! sorry about the foto, this thing makes me choose one everytime i write a new entry, thats the great wall of china. its not here with me in vietnam. nice pic tho? takes ages for these slow computers to upload any fotos of my own which is why ive only put about 10 on ages ago.
since i last wrote ive been havin a look round 'Nam' ! walked across a boarder in the very south from cambodia, a crossing thats only been open a little while, not too many other travellers about, but plenty of suprisingly aggressive veitnamese or however you spell that. got to saigon for new years which was awsome! met up with 2 other good friends and partied untill about 5am with what must have been thousands of other people, locals, and travellers. it was crazy, one of my best new years!
then went on a 2 day trip to the mekong delta which is the jungle in the very south like you see in all the american 'Nam' films, some amazin rivers and people that live on them. some actually build floating houses on the river and fish all day from underneath them as their job! there was some real buisy floating markets too, which is how all the locals do thier weekly groceries shopping. some of these boats are so full of fruit and veg that they are on the verge of sinking, the water is literally lapping at the very top of where the water sholudnt be lapping! went and saw the war tunnels at chi chu as well, we got to go inside some, and even though they were made bigger for the big fat western tourists they were still tiny, couldnt even fit in the real ones. plus because they are so vast and stretch for hundreds of kilometers and at different depths most of them are kept secret. even from the locals. just incase anythin else kicks off i suppose. they showed us some man traps and evil things they useed to set up in the jungles waiting for the yanks.i wouldnt like to fight them, theyre very clever. but after going to the war museum and learning abit about what the americans got up to, and agent orange etc, i dont blame them and i dislike americans even more.
from there ive headed up to mui ne for a couple of days and went windsurfin! woop woop! was awsome to go again, and was a good 5.5 day all day. kind of expensive to rent kit though. good constant wind and a pretty mean shore break that was fun to watch people get nailed in. luckily hayling island had me prepared.....although i mite have got spanked in it once. but top of the range kit which was cool, few too many kite surfers for my liking though. and if your not into any of that theres not a hell of alot else to do.
so onwards to a place called hoi an wich is famous for being very old and having loads of tailors.......and loads of old tailors, it was one of the only places the americans didnt bomb the crap out of so looked very origional and was nice. i sumhow got roped into getting a suit with a wasitcoat tailor made for me!? was sooo cheap though and i look cool in it. i feel abit like a gangster. but not too many occasions to wear it when your back packing so its busy getting f***ed up un my rucksack as we speak. sholud be good for annas wedding though, hope rob wont mind me showing him up :o)
now im in hue. went on a pretty crazy but realy good tour on the back of a lttle blokes moped yesterday afternoon, saw loads of the countryside and backstreets you wouldnt see on a normal tour, and brilliant views from on top of hills with old war bunkers that the locals like going up to for picnics and stuff, you could see hamburger hill from that famous battle.
saw a realy good buddhist monks place where monks live, dunno what its called but its dead peacful and tranquil, and he even timed it right so that the monks were doing a preying ceremony thing. it was all chanting and my little guide bloke was a buddhist and tottaly zoned out and shut his eyes, i asked him aftewards if he was preying too and he said no, he was just chilling like listening to bob marley! nice, so spiritual . then on are way out a small girl shouted oi noodle head to me which bought me back to reality.
i like the veitnamese people the further north i go, the southerners, particularly around saigon are very much more aggressive and in your face than the thais or cambodians who are super chilled out and all realy smiley and funny, so even though this is a really interesting place, as im on a time limit im catching an overnight bus to laos tonight. decided that i wana spend more time in the south of thailand on the islands too before oz, so im off
ive got so much more to say and so many more things have happend but itd take me forver to write it all!
want to try and get a new camera and memory card though, all fotos from new years, the cambodian/veitnam crossing and journey and all of the mekong delta pics were just lost. absolutely gutted. said picture error and didnt burn the on to cd and then they just got wiped from my stupid gay camera without me even pressing anything!! AAGGGHHHH technology hates me!
so im gonna say goog bye now before the computer crashes or i get electicuted. hope your all well.
