sihonoukville!!
what can i say. its a funny old place, full of some pretty random people.
had xmas here on the beach which was v.strange havin a sunbathe and then goin for xmas lunch! managed to find some turkey though, not quite how the same but it was nice. then had a big beach party pretty much till the sun came up with fire works bonfire, fire poi, and random gay ozzies coming out of the sea in thier pants from no where?! im stayin in a place called Kaya shack, which is built literally on the sand on the beach, i stay there for free as long as i spend about 5 dollars (2 pounds fifty!?) on food and drink every day! the rooms are pretty basic, but wot a bargain! i just stroll out of bed in the mornin, say ello to the lil cambodian people who work there and go for a swim in the warm sea just meters away!theres a fair few beggars on the beach without any limbs from landmines and stuff, but thats no bother at all since india, and you can even have abit of a laugh with some of um.
got introduced to a 50ish year old japanese bloke who had moved here and brought a whole bunch of wsurfin kit over, as well as two boats. he was apparently a good sailor but new nothin about windsurfin so was dead keen for me to set up and run a windsurfin school for him right on the beach i live on! after weighing it up for a few days and peicing together some complete sets of his fairly old kit together, i decided it would be too much bother to start changing flights and losing the money on my vietnam visa that ive already paid for, there was a chance it would fail and id lose out on money from staying therew and not earning anything, he wanted me to use a yaght for a safety boat?!? plus (and most importantly) the conditions here are perfect for begginers but no fun for me. not windy enuf, and you never know what i might get offered in other places. would have been real interestin to set it up tho and be my own boss on the beach with my own school coz he said he would be like a silent partner. oh well i can always come back if i change my mind.
rented some motorbikes and after never realy being botherd about them i think there awsome fun!still not interested in riding them in cold and wet england, but in hot places abroad like this its fantastic!we decided afetr goin to a few different beaches to explore the hills and countryside abit today. bit worried about mines but was stickin to pretty well worn paths so not too fussed. was with 3 sweeds and were going past all these little farm places and workers and stuff, down these realy bad bumpy tiny tracks when it opens out to this red dust road which is deserted except for a black car in front of us which looked fairly out of place for everything else around us. the car stops, and as i go past on my bike 4men get out and one has a AK 47 (thats a big machine gun if you dont know) s*** my pants! the road ahead turns into a small path that im starting to think leads into a big feild of weed as theres alot of it about in cambodia even though its illegal. hence the guns. just as one of these guys walks up and asks us what were doing here with his mate still lookin at us, he tells us somethin in cambodian and points gruffly in the direction we came. if youve seen the film the beach im fairly sure you can imagine which scene was flashing thru my mind. so turn the bikes around and go as fast as the bumpy pot holed road will lets us back past mr AK and in the direction of a main road!he he! was a massive rush! but we decided not to venture off proper roads so much after that.
anyway, leaving the beach not tomorrow but the next day for a new years in siagon. lets see what ''Nam'' has to offer!
hope your all good and had as good an xmas as me
