Monday, April 13....
We are driving up the east coast today. The picture is of the Moetaki Boulders about an hour north of Dunedin. These are boulders left by the glaciers, but are unique as some of these boulders are broken open revealing calcium carbonite. They look like something out of an alien movie. It is a sunny, warm day and we had a nice walk on the beach to see these boulders. We also managed to pick up a sackful of shells. We'll see if they make they trip back home! The only traffic we've encountered so far has been around Christchurch. The Kiwis also celebrate Easter Monday, so we were guessing the traffic was due to people coming back to the city from holiday. We made it to Hanmer Springs late in the afternoon. it is a resort town known for it's geothermal pools. We all enjoyed the pools, there are about 20 of them, all different temperatures. They also have water slides which Luke and Erin loved. Scott managed to rent another mountain bike and found some good trails on which to ride. He said that they mountain trails were great, but the bike uh, not so much. I took the kids putt-putt golfing and we went through an adventure maze. It was fun....you had to find your way through this maze and find the symbols to reveal the final code. Parts of the maze were pretty dark with different things popping out at you... I found myself with two little people attached to my hip some of the time. Scott eventually joined up with us at the pools and then we were off for Nelson. We are spending quite a bit of time in the car, but honestly the scenery is so beautiful the time goes by quickly.
We are still trying to get pictures to the website, but the more pictures we add, the more difficult it is to try and stay online. So if you don't see any more pictures, that is why. We'll keep tryting!
