Wow Jaipur. What an interesting little place.
Today we visited the Amber Fort. Built in 16th century to house the royals it was such a magnificent structure. Surrounded by a 12km wall that reminds me a little of the Great Wall of China. Every time I see these places I'm amazed at the effort and time put into building them. Thousand of workers. Possibly horrendous working conditions. Months, years and sometimes centuries.
After the fort we head back to that delicious restaurant for another Thali and guilty piece of cake before meeting our tour guide Nishan for the 3:30 session of the recently released Bollywood movie Jab tak hai jaan, translated in English to 'till I have life' in the context (I'll love you) till I have life'.
The movie was the last production of director Yash Chopra who sadly passed away at age 80. And the movie was sold out every day.
The cinema was similar to a usual cinema back home. Only the interior was more antique. They sold popcorn and the crowds waited outside until the doors were open. All seats were assigned.
As we sat down in our seats, the movie started and the crowd started to roar and cheer and clap. It was as if you were at a concert. It was funny to see how passionate everyone was about the Bollywood scene. It was even funnier how the crowd cheered for the first scene showing the famous actors, or when the girl got into her bikini, or when there was a kissing scene. It was very entertaining and snippets of the movie were in English so you could kind of understand the story, the cliched storyline was also a bit of a giveaway. It almost reminded me of something from Bold and the Beautiful. Dramatically romantic.
After the movie we went out for dinner at a nice garden restaurant with live entertainment. Nishan joined us. He was a kind and honest man. Probably the nicest Indian I've come across on the whole trip.
