Today we visited the world famous Taj Mahal and what a site it was.
We arrived at the west gate and made our way inside. There was a huge line of at least 300 people waiting to go in. Males in one line and females in another, each separated by metal barricades like cows being herded into their den.
Being foreigners we were allowed to enter via the express line so I walked through the barricades, felling the hundreds of staring eyes watching me as I walk by.
I get past the gates and now realise why so many people were waiting to see this magnificent structure. Beyond the long blue fountains there it was. A beautiful white marble structure built out of love. It looked almost like a postcard, 2D with the clear blue sky behind it. 30 years ago they had been told to clear out nearby factories to maintain the Taj Mahal otherwise it would lose its beauty to the dense pollution in the area so that's exactly what they did.
We headed in the direction of the structure, admiring its beauty. Perfectly symmetrical from each side, it was made by a king for his queen as her dying wish. She said "build me something magnificent out of white marble that people will admire for years to come". And that's what the king did, hence the Taj Mahal bring a symbol of love.
I thought this King was quite nice until I learned that he had the hands cut off all the artistic design workers of the Taj Mahal so that they could not design the prestigious artwork on any other building. This man was crazy and his son learned this when the father started to build an exact replica of the Taj Mahal in black using all the money they had and not providing any money to the people. He didnt get too far after the son threw him in jail, where he died 8 years later and was buried next to his wife in the basement of the Taj Mahal.
The Taj Mahal is truly wonderful sight to have seen and another wonder of the world to cross off the list.
