Hello one and all!
I am writing this on my host familys laptop because they can get internet in the house. But they also have a french keyboard, so I am allowed to make typos galore. Also, I am pretty sure that there is no apostrophe key...at least none that I can find.
Tuesday we had class, like I briefly mentioned. Then Jean Claude made dinner because Ingrid is out of town. And we had pasta with salmon in cream sauce and bread. And the pasta was sticky, the salmon was debatably cooked, and the bread was burned. So it was rather amusing. And then we had ice cream.
Wednesday we went to Versailles. We all met there at 1:15 and then we toured the chateau, all walking through separately. I stayed near our professors since they actually knew what everything was, and it was interesting. It is hard to imagine the full scale of it though, because you only tour the king and queens chambers and not all the other rooms where thousands of people lived.
Then we went out to the gardens, just as it started to rain. Because anytime we try to enjoy nature as a group, it pours. And so it did. The gardens were very pretty and had lots of fall colors, which was nice, but the rain definitely changed the dynamic a bit...especially when you are huddled under an umbrella and therefore cannot see as well. But we saw the main Versailles gardens and also Marie Antoinette's gardens, and it was nice. And I just found the rain amusing, although the cold was a bit grating.
Wednesday night we went out to dinner :) We being Jean Claude, Kathy, and I. We went to an indian restaurant, and it was tasty and we talked about college in the US and drinking wine.
Yesterday we had more classes all day. I also ate my first ever crepe with meat in it (chicken with cheese), so that was exciting. There are lots of crepes with meat (mostly ham), I just do not normally get them. But it was hot and delicious.
I also went to a French used book store and bought a book that I am going to read even though I am supposed to be reading Proust. In French class we did a reading and I realized I had not read anything in French (except the newspaper, I suppose) in awhile, so I bought the book. And hopefully it will be good.
And for dinner we had sausage and potaoes, which were cooked well. And Ingrid comes home on the 5th.
Today I am meeting Mira to go learn French at the Centre Pompidou, going to a movie, and then going to free night at the Louvre. And also eating lots of candy (or maybe pastries instead) in honor of Halloween!
Happy Halloween and talk to you soon!
