HELLO FROM MALAYSIA!
Just to give you all a quick run down on where we are and what we have been up to since we left Australia!
So we flew into to Singapore on the 4th June and stayed at the Little Red Dot hostel which was pretty central. We only stayed there for two days as there was'nt much to do there other than shop in the huge malls! We did visit The Esplande (Theatres on the Bay) and Chinatown etc! We then left by bus to Kuala Lumpar on the 7th June and arrived that night. We were staying at a really lovely hostel in a great location by Chinatown and the big Çentral Market. Again we only stayed for 3 nights but managed to see some fantastic things! On our first day we visited the Batu Caves which is the sacred place for Hindu's in Malaysia. There is this huge gold statue before you walk up the steps that lead up into the limestone caves alongside many wild monkeys, ha! The following day we visited the Lake Gardens, National Mosque and Monument and the Petronas Twin Towers!! One busy day!! We really enjoyed Kuala Lumpur and the time we spent there!
From Kuala Lumpur we then flew to Medan in Indonesia on the 10th June to stay at Bukit-Lawang. We had booked 3 nights here staying at the Green Lodge Guesthouse and we had an absolute brilliant time!! We had our own tree-top bungalow which had a great view of the jungle and the bathroom consisted of a bamboo pipe and a plastic bucket which you stood in and showered under!! Jungle style!! We had booked our jungle trek for the following day and were up at 7am having chocolate porridge! We then went down to the National Park ready for the orangutan feeding session at 8am. We had to walk up these huge steps that went on forever so we were high enough to view the feeding platform. Two guides went in and within 20 minutes a mum and baby orangutan came down followed by another two! They came so close to us and were standing on the wooden fence so i quickly jumped in front of the camera to get a picture with them! So amazing it was just brilliant to watch them! From there we went with our two guides on a trek into the jungle which turned out to be the hardest thing i have ever done in my life.....but the most fun!! We even managed to see another 4 wild orangutans which was the best thing ever! Trekking on a high incline then having to come down when there is no actual pathway was terrifying....but we made it and then had a 40 minute tubing ride down the river which was great fun! The following day we went into the village and felt very welcome with the locals looking at us in amazement (they don't see many westerners) waving and say hello! Then on our last morning we booked to view another feeding session and this time a huge male orangutan came with a baby so that was brilliant! Our visit to Bukit-Lawang was definitely one of the most memorable highlights of our trip so far and we really did have the best time!!
We then had to fly from Medan to Penang and we arrived last night at our hostel. We have booked to fly to Thailand tomorrow as there is not an awful lot to do here and want to chill on some beaches so we are flying to Krabi where we plan to take the ferry across to Phi Phi and visit the islands etc. From there we will probably make our way up the east coast to Chiang Mai before crossing over to Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam! We will keep you posted when we can and will get the photos on here a.s.a.p! xxxxxxx
