hellooo well we have left Krakow and are in a place called Lublin(no i dont mean dublin)
first let me tell you about krakow it ws lovely and sunny then it pissed it down lots! we found a cool rock club and drank to much beer and tryed to walk along there non existant wobbly paving!
in poland thay have busses but alsohave private busses to trying to work all this out is a mind field! we wanted to go and visit some really old salt mines that sounded cool so off we went to where the local busses hang out and tryed to decyper it ok that wasnt to hard and it was only 2 zl each(theres 5zl to one of our pounds) so we hop on and grab a seat(its only small like a mini bus) but after a few stops we were all packed in lol people standing up and sitting on laps! anyway we get there cramble through the people to get off as we decided to sit at the back! i hit my head on the way off lol and well were in a village with no idea where the mines are(i asked a girl and she said down i though tthat was expected lol) then i saw a ramp down so we trundeled down there and saw car parks for the salt mines! loads of them all privately run trying to flag cars in off the streets lol but yeh we soon found it and oh my god full of tourists!
then it was 46 zl to get in!(the money is scary as thats really only just under 10!)
the mines were really intresting i took some great photos if i dont say so myself! matt took some ok ones lol (hes gonna have my camera and im gonna upgrade in china or japan!)
there were churches and statues made from salt and chandileers made from salt that was pretty impressive but the best part was coming all the way up in an old lift that rattled and had no lights(better than thorpe park any day!)
we didnt really earn tomuch on the tour as our guide was like a wet blanket and wispered the tour and we couldnt hear her, we spent most our time trailing off at the back taking picktures getting in trouble for not keeping up!
the next day we got a hour or so train to go and see auschwitz, matt and i both didnt know what to expect really,
there were two sites to it one was really preserved but was more of a camp and the other a bigger camp and also the gas chambers, the scale of the second one was amasing it was huge, there were also candels laying arround everywhere and some kind of memorial march cerimony going on to while we were there.
to get up to te chambers from the main gate at Birkenau (the second camp)
there was a huge rail line myself and matt walked all the way up it towards the memorial cerimony and the ruined gas chambers it was a bit eary up there just made you realise how huge and on what scale it all was on, since going i have heard of many more nazi chambers arround poland.
i found a site with a few pictures and information
http://www.cracow-life.com/poland/auschwitz-death-camp
the second camp is on there to, its amasing that the war is still affecting poland and germany so much dresden is still re building and poland has lots of poverty and then really ritch people they get payed nearly a pound an hour in poland for a bar job and thats working late hours and the same for an all night shift in mc donalds, some things are cheaper like a pound a pint of beer and some clothes and meat and fruit and veg(they still work there fields by hand! and sell it on the streets) but then a meal niothing special will be the same as at home and phones cameras houses make up some food all the same as home!
they have huge 24 hour tescos here and huge places like currys and asda(paul would love the prices in this asda!) thats not paul my dad by the way another paul if people dont know him.
today were planning on going to the old village near lublin thats apparently still within old walls and buildings are un touched. lublin is lovely we decided to go arround warsaw as big groups of english people are all we have seen in some citys and we wanted to see poland, theres lovely little allys and squares and bars here and the hostel were in is very traditional we have beams in our room and a view out on to a church lit at night (we watched a huge thunderstorm out our window over the church the other night were on the top floor)
to get to the old village we have to find another one of those independent busses again lol! well thats all i can think of right now
missing you all
Bex and matt
