The day dawned sunny and balmy, you can really feel that summer has arrived. Coincidences abound all the time and as we walked into the cafe for breakfast, Sholeh saw a lovely lady she knew who is Doug's (Anisa's Husband) Aunt. Apparently they go to this restaurant every Saturday and even have their special table!
Emily Carr's ( a famous Canadian painter and writer) house was first on the list to visit here in Victoria. It is a little Victorian period charmer nestled in Old Vancouver. Cottage gardens surround the house and depictions of her work each accompanied by an exert from her writings were placed throughout the garden. The inside of the house was decorated in the style from the period she lived and a quaint charm permeated the residence. This street was a wonderful piece of Victoriana with other wonderful houses along its length.
Then we were off to Butchart Gardens. Somewhere that I had been longing to visit before I had even left Australia. Would it live up to my expectations? As expected there were crowds of people, but once inside I found it peaceful and I wandered around in quiet solitude, sitting on the many benches - enjoying the atmosphere, soaking in the vistas of plants that were so perfect I had to remind myself that it was real. The gardens are a panoply of colours and textures, with statues, wind catchers, fountains, totem poles, little hide away places to sit and perfect lawns to gaze at and sit on. It was a special delight to be there.
It was all topped off by a surprise afternoon lunch on the verandah of the cafe overlooking the gardens. It was a perfect setting and the perfect weather to enjoy it to the max.
On our way out we stopped at one last garden to meditate and chant some prayers to round off the special feeling of the day.
On the way home, Charles made a special detour so I could photograph the snow on the mountains that has enchanted me since I fist arrived on Victoria Island. It has become a bit of a running joke and they have started showing me snow at every opportunity!
On the way down to Victoria we took the Trans Canada Highway. This time we detoured off onto country roads seeing many pretty sights and towns. Chemainus in particular caught our imagination and Sholeh suggested we return there on Monday and I am looking forward to this treat.
