A fantastic night sleep was had and we were awake early and mapping out our day, what to do first and how to get there, a quick breakfast and we were on our way, getting to Buckingham palace in great time, at that hour no crowds, and oh!! no queen either, she is also on holidays, but the palace is impressive and awesome, so we decided that we would do the state rooms tour, this consisted of allowing us to wander through 19 rooms and what rooms, each different to the last one, when you think you have seen opulance you then go on to the next room and that blows your mind away, we saw the room that all weddings have been photographed, the entrance that the queen meets all her visitors, the christening room, saw the christening gown that is used for all the royal babies, the photos you see doesn't do it justice, it is so old and intricate in the lace work. Saw the state dining room, and I was surprised to see it wasn't as big as it is photographed but still an ok size, the gallery where a lot of the art is is awesome, I must be honest and say I have never taken much notice of paintings and portraits but these were unbelievable dating back centuries. You could take as long as you liked to complete the tour and at first I thought that with the crowd we went through with that we would not be able to see much but every one was good and there was so much to see that no one seemed to linger, it took us just over 2 hours to go through and then after we had latte and cakes in the garden cafe which is at the back of the building overlooking the palace gardens, a walk through the gardens to exit the grounds and then we were back were we started,
What to do next so we decided to do a hop on and hop off tourist bus, this idea is to get off at a tourist site and when finished you can catch the next bus and carry on, as it was now getting later in the day we stayed on the bus and from there worked out what we wanted to see tomorrow. Once back to the start we took a train trip to Notting Gate, where the movie Notting Hill was made, a quaint little suburb with magnificent homes,
It was now getting to the end of our day and all we wanted to do was go back to our room and rest up before looking for a place for dinner, after a few hours sleep we decided to explore Paddington and ended up at a greek diner for a meal.
Overall it was a great first day, the weather was beautiful to start out with, not a cloud in the sky but by mid afternoon it turned out cold and windy.
