Friday 16th
This is our last day here and once again Paris is raining and after breakfast it was decided to go back to the appartment and start packing as we definately have more to pack than we came with or should I say I have more to pack. Paris is a beautiful city and I think my first favourite,
But let us do an overview of what we have done. firstly flying to Amsterdam and spending a few days there before boarding the river cruise and cruising for 14 days to Budapest, the journey was 1872kms of waterways and we passed through approx 61 locks and visited 16 towns/cities along the way, the scenery was amazing, the staff on the ship were excellent, nothing was too much trouble and the food you could not fault, the arranged tours were appropriate and well managed for the time frame we had for each town and always allowed free time for shopping or just to wander around on your own, we were really lucky to have great weather, although if my memory is correct we had one day of rain while on the ship and the nights were starting to get cold,
My only real criticisim was that when we all started to get sick, the cruise director was very slow in arranging to bring a doctor on board, and by the time he did, this virus had gone through nearly every passenger and a lot were very very sick.
Would I do a cruise like this again? they say "never say never" but for me more possibly not, we met some really nice people and a few grumpy ones, I did get sick of every conversation coming around to "how many of these cruises have you done before? how many times have you travelled overseas and where have you been?
Then on to a few days in Budapest, another really interesting city but we were still so sick to really do the tourist thing, and I hope one day to get back there.
London is another of my favourite cities and we completed Peter's bucket list and met up with Allison and Dean, once again the weather was great but you could feel winter is fast approaching, the Eurostar train trip to Paris was smooth and although we were behind scheduled arrival time this was OK as we had no time frame to adhere to.
Paris has been wonderful, the appartment was a great idea and allowed us both space, and in a great location, if you look out the front lounge room windows, just two streets away you can see part of the Louvre, the river Seinne and within walking distance to the Eiffel Tower, and Notre Dame, a lot of corner restaraunts just to sit, have a latte and watch the locals do their every day thing.
Tomorrow (Saturday) we leave and commence the long journey home, arriving late Sunday night.
