Well, my last day in Langkawi has been fun filled and very busy! Got up early for the tour this morning. The boat was a small but extremely fast boat, with about ten of us filling it, which bounced us very hard across the amazingly blue sea to our first stop, a stunning white sandy island, teeming with monkeys and really warm sea - it really is paradise here! We spent an hour on the island, trying to avoide the monkeys, which tho cute, can be pretty agressive, especially if you have something they want! From there we went towards the mangroves and saw a cool python ey looking snake in the trees - apparently not harmful, but we kept our distance anyway! Also saw loads of sea eagles and Brahminy kite eagles which swooped down to feed from the boats - was really cool!
We then went to an island and a lake called the lake of the pregnant maiden - I've heard various stories as to why its called this - some say that women used to go there if they were having trouble conceiving, but the skyline of the whole island also looks like a pregnant woman lying down - so maybe both! Sam and I got pedalos (very tacky, I know, but fun!) across the lake, and also dangled our feet into a big pool of fish that nibble at your feet!! From there we took an extremely bouncy ride back across the sea back to pulau Langkawi.
As if that wasn't enough excitement for one day, we decided to get the cable car, 710m up onto th top on Gunung hill, a huge hill with stunning views of the whole island. its very high up tho, and I was a little ( if not a lot!) terrified in the very fast cable car!
We debated staying to see the sunset from up there, but decided in the end to go back as this would have meant waiting two hours with nothing to do up a hill! We came back to Pantai Cenai to grab some Nasi Lemak - a malyasian snack of rice boiled in coconut milk with an egg and some fried chicken, was very nice, except for the slightly too spicy sauce but I braved it anyway!
Am off to Borneo tomorrow, flying to Sandakan via KL - very excited about hopefully seeing some orangs, and proboscis monkeys, so will let you know how it all goes!
