Typical, when we arrive it decides to rain - it did only last a short while but we admit that we were worried that it was set in for the week! The island is such a beautiful place- landing at the airport you could see everything. We were met by a friend of Dad's who offered to put us up for the night at his beautiful home in the hills. One word - Amazing. His house was just stunning with a separate guesthouse for us and an infinity pool. Nick and Anna were so welcoming and by the end of the day we had already seen most of the tourist gems in the area (grandfather rock, stuffed monk, big budda). We really did get looked after and ate interesting stuff like porridge with liver (the traditional breakfast) and all kinds of fruit. We only planned to stay one night but enjoying their company so much that we stayed another night and the following day travelled further round the island looking at the less touristy parts such as the fishing villages. When it was time to say our goodbyes, they dropped us at a hut on the beach that we had sourced the day before and that was us. Beach, beach hut and sun, perfect! The lady living next door adds to it somewhat with her Swedish accent and bubbly personality, oh plus the naked sunbathing and hanging her thongs on the washing line….but apart from her it's like our own private beach here as there's hardly anyone on it this far down in Lamai.
A few days into our stay in Koh Samui we did some elephant trekking. Smelly things they are really, but in a way so so cute! Our elephant was called Victoria and was very well trained - the guide even had her walking on her own with us whilst he was behind and in front taking pictures. The view point that we were taken to previous to our trek was amazing too - you could see for miles (the 5 islands, Nick and Anna's house, the beach that we are now staying on) and the views were just getting better! On our last day in Koh Samui we took a day trip to Angthong marine park. Here we met some lovely loud Australians who we jelled with straight away. The boat ride out there took about an hour and a half but it was sooo worth it - the views were once again stunning! It reminded me a bit of Halong Bay but with beaches. We Kayaked, snorkelled and jumped off the edge of the boat (such a thrill)...oh, and got very burnt (well Will did anyway). What more could we want from Koh Samui really? Life's good!
