Beth´s world trip
Well we've crossed the border into Bolivia (Uncle Craig I have sent you a postcard from Argentina, country number 3!) from where we went to Potosi the highest city in the world (of its size). We did too much shopping, Jane talked me into a poncho (6 pounds tut tut), and everyone on the tour baring a couple of us tough uns was ill!!
We then went out to the salt flats at Uyuni, which are stunning!! They are about 125 km long and roughly the same across, pure white. We spent the day on them looking at various stuff and eating bbq'd llama on Fish Island. My photos are amazing.
on our way back to Potosi, Trevor the truck got stuck in clay and although the guys spent 6 hours digging under the wheels trying to get him out we ended up having to camp where we were until a tow truck turned up 24h later. Jane and Sof jumped on a bus that as willing to take those not fully fit back to town but I ended up camping in -15•c. all of our water froze and we had very limited food!! Wasn't best pleased but some baileys was produced for the hot choc and I jumped into the middle of the fullest tent so I didn't suffer too much.
We then had to travel through the night to Le Paz, the biggest city in Bolivia, which we loved. Jane and I yet again spent too much money in the witches market, we both bought hammocks for just over 5 pound, which are hopefully winging there way home as I type. Some of the guys did the bike ride down death road but Jane and I went for a Spanish lesson as they are dirt cheap and now I might be able to manage in Argentina by myself. We also fell in love with an English pub that served cups of pg tips (by the pint) our first cups of tea since we left and proper lasagna!! Yum!
