Good thing about Guesthouses from now on is that they provide breakfast, SA style. Saved us a lot of trouble and some all important cash as well. The SA style breakfast basically consist of bacon, sausages, eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes. This is really the standard throughout the whole Africa. Some Health Ministry's guideline I suppose.
As per the past fewdays, Tong's nose was still in flood mode and no different this morning as he continued to struggle with the toilet paper in his nose. And this led to the FUNNIEST moment of the trip. This is really hard to explain man but I shall try...here it goes, use some imagination. Tong rolled up a bunch of toilet paper nice and straight and stuffed it into his left nostril to prevent the juice from flowing out. Then he started pouring himself a cup of nice hot coffee. When he wanted to drink it, he raised the cup and realised that the toilet paper will go into the coffee and this was the MOMENT! He used his other hand to push the toilet paper out of the way such that it looked like sort of a moustache and then tried to drink the coffee. OKOK..I know this is hard to believe that its funny but I instantaneously burst into uncontrollable laughter and obviously Tonga knew what I was laughing at and he too found it hilarious and started laughing. It was so funny that we laughed till tears started flowing man! I'm still laughing as I'm writing this. Guess only we will know the funny in this incident!
Alright..next up was a long and boring trip which I suggested. It was to Drakensberg, which was a UNESCO site, for its numerous ancient wall paintings. But when we were there, we realised that the place was impossible to explore on a day trip. Its like you need to stay at the accom there for a couple of days kind and hire a guide to bring you around so you don't get lost and all amongst all the trails and treks. I sorta ventured out on my own to try to find at least something worth seeing while Tong stayed back to relax at the recep area.
In the end, the only things I thought were worth the time was a soccer field right out in the wild and the marbled paths. Nothing too fancy about these 2 things though. But well, it took me an hour to get to these places and back. Tonga was worried I might not come back and SMSed me to go back. LOLz! Hey..you're looking at a experienced hiker k! LOLz! We wasted no time and headed straight back to Durban. Along the way we really saw poverty in SA though. Kids and women carrying giant bags and stuffs on their head and walking long distances. Youth wasting their lives lazing and walking around aimlessly. Sad but in a way interesting, opened our eyes to realities around the world. The landscape were pretty different as well, the hills and valleys aren't really those kind you see in Switzerland or Japan. It resembles Grand Canyon more in fact. But its brown and reddish and sorta dull but from afar it looks pretty majestic. Tong calls them "chocolates". Brrrrr.
It was a 3 hours drive back. It got dark and it was really not easy driving in the dark, had to high beam at some places along the highway 'cause you can't really see whats ahead. Back in Durban, we went to the Fan Fest Park to revel in the atmosphere of the World Cup! It was Uruguay Holland Semis tonight! The was was in Cape Town but tons of Dutch and Dutch supporters were around in Durban to crowd the Fan Fest Park! Flags, scarves and of course, vuvuzelas were out in full force.
Holland came out tops in that match and everyone was happy! We actually left when it was 3-1 and didn't realised Uruguay scored a last minute goal and made it 3-2. Back home, we settled into our routine of one washing up and one using the internet first. Tomorrow's the BIG day! What this trip is all about!
