After a flight from Buenos Aires to Colombia, I started a new adventure in the country of Colombia. My Colombian trip began in the beautiful city of Medellin, pronounced 'Med-een'. This city is down in a valley surrounded by high mountains. As I travel by taxi down into the city my ears begin to pop from the change in altitude.
In Medellin I visited the national park of Santa Elena. It was scenery was incredible. It is definitely one of the most beautiful places I've visited to date. In Santa Elena Park I visited a butterfly farm. The farm had twelve different types of butterflies with the most delicate wings I've ever seen. The colours were spectacular. Some of the butterflies even had transparent wings. See if you can find the butterfly in these pictures I've posted on the blog.
Before I left Medellin I decided to get a bird's eye view of this fantastic city. Paragliding was the activity I chose. I was attached to a parachute with a very tiny harness. I was told by the people in charge of the paragliding company that they don't usually get bears so small hoping to take to the air. I blushed with pride on hearing this. It was a thrilling experience and that I definitely won't forget in a hurry.
After a most wonderful trip in Medellin, I took a flight to the city of Cartagena (Cart-e-hena), in northern Columbia. The change in temperature was the first thing I noticed when I arrived in Cartagena. The heat was something like I've never experienced before. Being a bear with lots of fur it wasn't the most ideal place for me to visit. Contrary to this, I had a brilliant time on my visit to Cartagena. Cartagena is based next to the Caribbean Sea with two parts to the city, the old town and the new town. The old town had cool monuments and old buildings. In contrast to this the new town was a lot bigger with towering sky scrapers. From the old town I took a boat trip out to Playa Blanca, the second biggest island off Columbia in the Caribbean. The sand was white with beautiful palm trees in the background and a fabulous turquoise watered beach in front of me. This is the life I thought to myself as I relaxed in myself into my tiny deck chair.
Wanting to see more of Columbia, I took a flight to Bogota Columbia's capital city. Bogota is situated in the middle of Columbia and is up high on the Andean mountains. Bogota was cold so my fur coat came in very handy on my visit here. This was my first experience of being at high altitude and as I walk up the stairs I found myself short of breath. Being at high altitude means the air is thinner and has less oxygen in it. This means my small lungs have to take in a lot of short breaths to get the right amount of oxygen into my little lungs. When athletes are preparing to compete in countries at high altitude they go into altitude chambers to acclimatise themselves for being competing so high above sea level. When I got used to the altitude I took a visit to the beautiful cathedral in Bogota called, Montserrat. This cathedral is located high over the city of Bogota. Here I saw a beautiful sunset and watched as the lights came on all around this massive city.
At the end of my trip to Colombia I stopped off in the city of Cali. I spent a short stay here before getting ready to travel to my fourth country. I am looking forward to seeing what Ecuador has to offer next. I hope you all had a brilliant Halloween and Mid-term break in Berrings. I will talk to you all very soon.
