Ben and Marie's American Road Trip
Today we were aiming to head to the Rocky Statue at the Philadelphia museum of art, and run up the steps just like in the film. It was really warm out, like 25 degrees, so it was the perfect day for it. We woke up extra early and did some laundry, and while it was drying, we thought we would have a little game of mini golf on camp. Marie turned out to be quite the expert, after taking a few holes to get used to it of course. I did win, but she put up a respectable display. After that, we checked out and set off for Philadelphia again, and when we arrived in the city, we found out that the NFL draft experience was in full swing, there were people everywhere. I didn't realise how big American football was to the Americans until we went in. It was like a festival! We walked around and sampled some of the free food, like chilli Mac and cheese and some new yoghurts, it would be rude not to. After that, we asked multiple event staff as to how to get to the art museum as the NFL draft stage backed onto the museum itself, but we were assured it was still open. So after walking most of the way inside the draft experience and around the edge after advice from both a policeman and the head of event staff, we found our way to the museum. Went in and asked the staff whether we could get to the statue, and we were told no, so we walked around 3 miles just to be told we couldn't go to it. We were pretty gutted to be fair, plus we were a mess as the 3 miles we walked were in 25 degree heat. But we still enjoyed the day, and we went back to the car and set off for Washington. On the way stumbling across a very short-sighted, narrow-minded buffoon, see attached photo. Long drive ahead. We had Popeyes for tea, that was a new one, chicken was pretty good though. But they still serve these weren't biscuit things, so they call them anyway. Which are far from a biscuit, as we know them in the U.K. anyway. A rich tea is a biscuit, a custard cream is a biscuit, but a spongey savoury scone, is not a biscuit. When we did arrive in Washington DC at the KOA camp there, we just settled down and went to sleep in the car, ready for the next day.
