Thought that I should broadcast from a truly Belgian place today, a small bar called Paters Vaatje.. right next to the old cathedral. This tiny place has around 150 choices for beer, respectable, but modest by Belgian standards. The beer in this country is unlike anything I've ever had.. it borders on perfection. What's more, the pride in their beer is incredible. The beers of the famous Trappist breweries are given the utmost respect. Every beer you order has it's own specialized glass.. every single beer. It's incredible!
Besides the beer (I can't believe I'm saying that), Belgium has been wonderful. My diet has included more waffles an fries than I've ever experienced before.. but hey, I'm trying to experience the culture! (don't worry Mom, I AM eating real food too) Met a really nice couple from North Carolina in Bruges, and we've come to Antwerp together. The hostel is a little strange.. smells kinda like (a lot like) a cattle stall and there are some really quirky rules, but hey.. $15 a night, can't complain too much.
I've got all my hostels booked for the rest of the trip. Tonight I'll be here in Antwerp, then Brussels the next two nights. I'll fly from Brussels to Dublin on Easter, and spend my last few nights there before flying back on Wednesday! It'll be sad to say goodbye to my new friends here (who are traveling together for the next 8 months! Tara.. better get ready ;)), but I look forward to following their trip! In any case, definitely time to order another beer!
