So the Petronas towers were wicked, great to see them up close and do the whole touristy picture thing but its crazy how high they are. We queued at 8.30 to get our tickets and endd up getting a time of 4.45pm. So we burned the day with a walk around Kuala Lumpur, a trip to the Batu Caves, where there is a huge sttue and a monkey temple where one of the monkeys stole andys ice cream, and the guys we were with left early to Singapore.
When we finally got round to hitting the towers we watched a 5 min video on how great Petronas are and then got to go up a lift to the skybridge and spent about ten minutes up there taking it in. Wicked view but not as good as the KL tower down the road, a communications tower with a 360 degree view of the city (and you can go higher up).
So after that we went back to the hostel, got our things and headed for the bus station to catch our bus to singapore.
We arrived in SIngapore at around 1.30am and then headed for a hostel we heard about called hang out at mount emily's. It was VERY nice, real funky place but was about $40 a night which works out around about 20 quid a night which was too steep for us, but we needed to crsh, so we did. The next day we headed to another hotel called G4 station, which is where we are right now, trying to burn today before we catch our flight to Cairns which we've pushed forward so to spend more time in australia and get out of Singapore which is proving to be very expensive. Even for basic food (compared to where we have been).
Whilst in SIngapore we've seen quite a lot weve wandered around most of the districts, as with maaysia most of the towns are split into cultural districts... We are staying in little india, but weve explored chinatown and the main central areas. The MRT (mass rapid transit) system (basically london underground) is very efficient and its easy to hop on and off around the city. We hit a small island off the coast called Sentosa island, which is a pretty touristy place but nonetheless pretty nice with plenyty to do, you have to get there via cable car from the mainland so that was fun and we chilled on the artificial beach for a while.
The highlight of our stay i SIngapore would have to be the zoo for me and i think andy too. We spent maybe 3-4 hours in there and with a joint ticket went to the night safari afterwards. The zo was ace, loads of different animals they have hundreds of species from komodo dragns to white tigers and polar bears, it was great although we went on a gloomy day. The night safari was aso cool we went round most of it on a kind of tram/bus thing and saw loads of animals, namely a huge bull elephant and stuff like tapirs and hyenas. In addition you can jump off and walk bits of the park and we got close to a malay tiger and a few night creatures, some of them a bit too close, like the bats. We went into the mangrove walk expecting some little fruit bats darting around but you look up and its like terodactyls flying above your head they were huge.
So now were catching a flght to carins, australia at 9.55 pm which arrives in australia at 8.05 am with time difference of +2 hours i think. Then we pick up our van at 12pm that same day! Were both very excited but we need to kil time since its only 11am here in singapore. We will probably play on the wii and watch films for most of it since its yet again...a miserable day
over and out!
