hey guys experienced some more fiji time while waiting for a taxi to the airport which was a bit concerning as it took ages to come. anyway had a good flight and arrived in auckland to spend 2 hours in customs. think we looked really dodgy as we had all our bags searched and emptied on a table which took ages to repack. had some food on us and cava so not going to bother with that next time. didnt really do a lot once we got to the hostel, sorted out a trip to the bay of islands and some accomodation. had a quick walk round the town and watched a show like the advert for the bbc where you see some people falling from the ceiling on bits of material remeber it? well thats what they were doing something about a butterfly bee and a flower but they went really high and it was quite good.
next day we got up really late very confused as we didnt have a window in our room so got up bout 12 ish still thinking it was the middle of the night. did some shopping round town buying some books and sorting out renting a van. if you want a laugh check out www.jucy.co.nz and we got the jucy crib, so should have killed each other by the end of our time in new zeland. watched a street performer get out of a straight jacket whilst dislocating both shoulders which was pretty rank.
got up early as we were getting picked up to go to the bay of islands. got in a little mini bus and set off stopping off at a few places on the way taking some pictures. both nearly puked up as they have lots of windy roads and a driver who didnt really like slowing down for them. got to paihia and had a look around got some food and got our christmas dinner, going to try and cook some roast potatos and yorkshires so should be interesting.
hope you all have a good christmas and we are thinking of you all in the cold and wet. its great reading your messages would love to write back but we can't so stuck with this. have fun xx
since we have the camper its hard to get to a computer so this is the first chance we have had. so will give you a summary of what we have done so far.
got the car and headed up to the corromandel peninsular which is really pretty stayed up there for a couple of days, got stones thrown at our car so had to move in the middle of the night to somewhere different to sleep so that was a bit scary, then we went to whitianga where we chilled on by the beach, also went to hot water beach where we jumped the waves which were massive and you couldnt actually jump them so it was more like attempt it and then get smashed about. but at low tide you can dig holes in the sand which fill up with water and then the spring underneath all the sand warms it up to the point it is too hot and you burn yourself so that was really cool. we then went through pauanui and on to tauranga where we got our first new zealand city but is more like a town to us. did a bit of shopping then headed for the mount as the kiwis call it or mt mounganui for us where we intended to walk up the mountain but couldnt get in to the town because of new years. so we parked up outside and walked in to find they were putting on a big thing bit like beachdreams but a lot bigger and better and was all free, so we chilled on the beach listening to bands and then watched the fire works which was really good. we then left just after midnight and headed for rotorura stopping off in te puke for the night.
in rotorua we chilled for the day after not much sleep, now in 2008. found some thermal springs and walked around, the whole town smells like rotten eggs because of the sulphar coming from all the springs everywhere. after 4 days we had our first shower which was fantastic. also we went to the musuem, went zorbing which is soo much fun you should all go to devils dyke and do it. then we went luging, if anyones been to robin hill on the iow and done the thing there on the little carts down the hill, luging is much better and you have a track to go down a mountain on, they're like go carts so lots of fun there. also found lady janes ice cream parlour for lots of yummy ice cream thanks jane. after rotorua we headed west to waitomo do go black water rafting. went on a little walk at night through some caves to find glow worms which was really cool. then the next day we went black water rafting for 5 hours which included abseiling into a cave then a flying fox in the dark a bit of rafting and caving then climbing up 2 waterfalls to get out was really good and thanks to bens dad and nan grandad christmas money we could do it so thank you. we left waitomo and headed to tongariro national park where they filmed part of lord of the rings. did the tongariro crossing which took 7 hours and walked 18.5km up and through active volcanos, luckily they didnt choose to erupt when we were there. was a really good walk except the weather was rubbish and wet but good fun. we finished off with a big burger king and noticed nicky had swollen ankles because the downhill really hurt so walking was a bit tough that night. now we're in taupo and spent today washing clothes and ourselves in the superloos that they have here wow. tomorrow we are off to a prawn farm where you can feed baby prawns and then go fish for their mums and dads in big pools outside and then give them to the chef to cook for you, so dinner may be on you dad, thanks.
we did end up at the prawn farm and fed the baby prawns which was really strange as they come and nip your fingers but one did clean bens finger nail for him so was good. spent 3 hours fishing for prawns but failed to catch any which was rubbish but good fun. we then left taupo for napier and hastings but there wasnt much to see there stayed the night and left for palmerston north not much there either and ended up in wellington for 4 days. went up a cable car and looked round the museum, then at the weekend there was international volleyball on the beach so we sat and watched that in the sun. tomorrow we get the ferry over to the south island.
thanks for the messages they are really funny to read and always make us smile. hope all is well in sunny england. you'll be pleased to know our tans are fading a bit as its raining at the moment. take care xxxxx
