Yesterday we had every intention of waking up at 5.30am so that we could get into town to see the running of the bulls but Ben didn't give Bek enough notice (eg. Enough time to pee, eat and dress) so we just went back to sleep. After sleeping for a few more hours we headed into Pamps to check out the sites. The streets were still swarming with drunken people from the celebrations the night before. Nearly everyone in the town was wearing red and white and covered in sangria stains. We checked out the course that the bulls run and also the famous fountain that people stupidly jump off and expect people to catch them (someone from our campsite did this and was not caught and DIED!!). Later back at the camp, Ben and 4 other people he'd met were talking about the running of the bulls and trying to psych themselves up for the next morning. It didn't help when they saw the pictures in the paper of people getting hurt.
This morning we finally managed to get early enough to get to the running of the bulls. Ben ran with the other guys and Bek and some other girls watched from the arena at the end of the course. Ben was very nervous before the running but afterwards had no regrets and mentioned that he would like to do it again but next time start before the notorious "dead man's corner" which is where a majority of people get hurt when the bulls come around the corner. Just after lunch we made our way to Madrid but ran into some problems along the way. We were heading up a steep incline and the van decided to die on us because we hadn't really checked any oil levels for the journey, therefore, we ran out of it. Luckily we were rescued by some locals who gave us a container of engine oil. We eventually made it to Madrid at about 8.30pm so it was a long day on the road but it had to be done. The campsite that we stayed at was not that flash as it was in an industrial area of Madrid.
