So we have been in South East Asia for coming on 2 months now and during this time we have travelled from Thailand to Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and back to Thailand. Sampling various local food en route we have had; soups, curries, stir fires, noodle dishes and 'market' food, all of which (or at least the majority of) have been very tasty. Obviously we have thrown some other culinary options into our diet with the comfort of western style food, pizza, pasta etc. which is needed occasionally.
However it was on this day, Wednesday 1st June where we 'took it up a notch'.....if you haven't already guessed we found and then devoured, a McDonalds!! Please don't judge us for this, actually fill your boots, it was worth it! For half an hour we embraced Ronald, in a cool, air conditioned room, chowing down on 2 large Big Mac meals....brilliant.
To round off 'McWestern Wednesday' we then jumped in a taxi (back of a pick up truck with a roof on) and took a hint from the way I was feeling (hungover, post reggae bar) and headed to the cinema to watch 'The Hangover 2'. 90 minutes of laughter finished a truly home like day. We went to bed fully aware of our reinforced 'westerness', eager to sample more of what South East has on it's menu the following day.
(If you think 1 McDonalds in 24 hours was bad enough - I can't imagine what you would think of someone who had 2?!)
