Today was a big day starting up at 9am this morning. We walked down to the cable car and took it down to the port. It was really steep and a bit scary but we made it to the bottom.
We then took a boat over to the volcano which is an island in the centre of the Santorini crescent. The boat was small and after last nights effort I was still hungover and trying not to throw up as it bobbed over the waves.
Once we got to the other side we started the hike to the top of the volcano where we got the most awesome views you have ever seen. You could dig a hole in the ground and feel the steam from the ground on your hands. The volcano is still active today and the rock formations were so interesting to learn about. I would say this is a must do in Santorini. Amazing!
After our hike back to the bottom we got back on the boat which took us to a swimming spot.
We jumped into the water from the boat and swam down the river inland to a spot where we could bathe in the mud and splash around. The thermal springs we were swimming in were so warm it was almost like having a hot bath.
Nathan and Dane covered themselves in this mud and proceeded to act like cavemen. Needless to say, the mud was so hard to get off and stained a lot of people's bathers.
We swam back to the boat where we had lunch and wine before setting off back to the port.
We all got on donkeys to get back up the 588 steps up the cliff face. It was so scary. I assumed someone was going to be there to lead them but they just put you on them give them a tap on the bum and off they go. The donkeys would run into each other and I was afraid mine was going to stumble or be pushed over the side of the cliff. They stopped every now and then for a rest and we just gave them lots of pats and told them how good they were. It was so much fun.
Tarnia and I stopped for gelato on the way home and then I chilled by the pool and went for a bit of a swim.
After that we went and hired quad bikes to ride around Santorini. We went for a bit of a burn and headed back to the hotel for a nap and got ready to head out that night.
We caught a bus over to Oia where we watched the sunset and did a bit of looking around. That place is amazing and thousands of people gathered to watch. As the sun went behind the horizon everyone clapped an cheered and we got back on the bus to Fira.
We had a quick dinner at a really nice restaurant and then headed out to experience the nightlife.
We went back to Murphy's, had a look at Enigma night club and then eventually headed home with Tori via a kebab shop.
We got back to the hotel at about 4am and sat by the pool with everyone, a few even went swimming!
Didn't have any idea where Brucey was and she had the key to our room, so I crawled into the spare bed in Hayden's room at about 5am and passed out. Awesome day! One of my favorites of the entire trip.
