Here is the long awaited update to our travels!!
Where did we leave off...oh yeh we got stuck in a lift!! Shortly after this we thought we would tak a walk around and try and find some of that cheap food we were talking about, but us rooky travellers took the wrong road. Girls/Ladyboys lined the street all dressed in their best gear wit hno where to go but look pretty waiting for someone to pick them! We had entered the red light district of Bangkok!! Becca could not help but stare trying to determine, girl or boy :) Needless to say we got outta there pretty sharpish after the wierd looks we were getting from everyone and headed for the first food place we could find - it happened to be Pizza Hut!!!
2 days later and we have recovered from the trauma lol and atempt our first night train to Chiang Mai. this is after a nite of tasting the local delicacies of fried grasshopper or cricket and worm...Sangsom makes you do the strangest things!
The night train was a gruelling 16hours but we eventually arrived in Chiang Mai ready and raring to go on our 3 day trek. the first day we had a laugh with the American guy on our bamboo raft, getting splashed by the guide until he gave us the chance to steer and we ended up crashing into the rocks courtesy of Bina's driving skills!! After that it all started to go downhill....or not as th ecase was, seeing as our trek consisted of a very steep climb up the side of a mountain that seemed never ending. The waterfall and surrounding scenery was great too look at when we had the opportunity to look up from our feet and take it in. Bina did not do so well, tripping and falling alot on the way up! 4hrs later we arrived at the waterfall diving in to the icy cold waters for a well deserved cooling off!!
Our accomodation consisted of a bamboo hut with not much more than a wooden floor to sleep on, mossie nets and a blanket. least to say we didnt get much sleep that night, especially with the crashing sounds of the waterfall 2ft away!! We mad the hard decision to cut our trek short and not continue up the mountain for another nite. The bloody climb down took us only 1hr!!!After some eventful elephant riding we got back to the hotel and decided to treat ourselves to a deserved drink! Good night was had, with Becca busting out the moves to her gym CD in some random club!!
The best day of the trip so far was spent with the tigers at Tiger Kingdom. Becca was like a kid in sweet shop trying to decide which size tiger she wanted to play with the most. We eventually opted for the cubs and the "Big Ones". you should have seen the disappointment on her face when she found out that we couldnt actually play with the cubs just stroke them. It was such a surreal experience especially when the cub slept on our laps. As we waved goodbye to the babies we were faced with the roar of th big ones!! Larger than life yet so placid. Just strolling and lazing around allowing us to lay on them without even moving. Unfortunately we had to leave without taking them with us :( What an end to our first week in thailand;lets hope Vietnam lives up to all the stories we've heard!!
