Hey everyone,
I hope that u are ok.
All I can say is wow, New Zealand is just fantastic, there are views all around you!!!
We left Christchurch after a couple of days and seemed to leave the bad weather behind us aswell because ever since it has been scorching!!! (Although it is raining a little at the moment)
We picked up Andy's car and started the 7 hour drive to Queenstown which was particularly interesting because we had to have my backpack in between me and Han so we couldn't actually see each other for the whole journey and we also had Andy's snowboard which could also only fit in the middle!!! (Dad we needed your car packing skills)
There was plenty to see on the drive, a couple of lakes (the names escape me at the moment but will ask the others and put names with pictures!), Mount Cook (as above but without snow as it is summer here at the moment) and the Misty mountains.
I think I may have left my camera cable in Queenstown but I will be back there in a few weeks so can put pictures up then!
We arrived in Queenstown that evening to a welcome party (we stayed with Freya's friends from uni Matt and Emma) and also Andy (Jame's friend whose car we are using) and then when out that evening I bumped into some of my sis friends from stortford (small world!!!)
Matt had a few days off work so took us to see the sights which included some of the areas where the Lord of the Rings films were filmed!! We also went up the skyline which has great views and also luging (go kart type things that go down a course from the top of the skyline-not down to the bottom though. Basically downhill go karting)
I really love Queenstown, it is the adventure place so there is so much to do but it is also beautiful and very peaceful. I have been waking up the last few days in a house on the mountain side overlooking a lake and the mountains and the weather has been fantastic (what more can u ask for!!)
We went to a bar called mini bar (it was tiny) and the place would be heaven to all boys and beer lovers (they had a double sided A4 sheet of beers!!)
The ozone layer of NZ is a bit messed up so we all managed to get pink noses as the sun is so strong!!!
We left Queenstown on Friday and drove 1 hour 30 minutes to Lake Wanaka, the plan is to do the west coast of the South island in the next 2 weeks and then get back to Queenstown for the superbowl on 4th Feb.
Lake Wanaka is cool, very small and quiet although at the moment there is a triathlon and so we had trouble getting accomodation and the 4 of us ended up in 3 different hostels.
I managed to get the hostel which is made for hobbits, the ceiling was only a few inches above my head-hilarious and the bathroom was tiny I nearly hit my head in the shower!!!
Luckily we managed to all get into the same hostel tonight, the others have gone canyoning but I didn't fancy it as it involves small spaces such as caves!! So I have got the day to myself.
Right well I am going to go and wander by the lake.
Will write again soon.
Loads of love
B xx
