Alright, I am very disappointed in myself for not writing another entry until now! There is almost too much to talk about at this point but I will try and hit all the high points. This won't be as detailed as my other entries but I will try to give you the best picture I can.
We spent 4 days in Sydney at a hostel called "THE WAKE UP." It was much more modern compared to our hostel in Fiji. It included a little café where we went every morning and evening to eat and it had a bar in the basement called the "sidebar." I stayed in a six person room with 3 other girls and 2 guys (all of which were from Eau Claire). Right when we got there, everyone wanted to take an hour walk in 95 degree weather to the Sydney Harbour to see the bridge and the Opera House. I of course went, but what I really wanted to do was sleep! I was stressing so much about the heat that I had a hard time being excited about seeing these monumental sites, but it was still amazing!! The next couple of days we spent seeing attractions in Sydney which included the Sydney aquarium, the Sydney zoo, the Australian Mueseum and the Sydney Tower! The view from the Tower was ABSOLUTELY unreal! You could see all of Sydney! Some pictures are posted of these things I just mentioned. We also took a "guided beach walk" while in Sydney which included a 2 hour walk along the Sydney coastline stopping at 5 different beaches along the way. I cannot remember all the names, but I know the last beach we ended up at was called "Bondi" which is one of the most popular beaches in that part of Australia. We spent a couple hours there and ate lunch as well. All of us had the "Bondi Burger." We thought it was pretty fitting and it wasn't too bad either! :)
Everything in Sydney was way more expensive than in the United States, especially after being in Fiji for 4 days where everything is almost half of what it is in the States. All the girls wanted to walk around and go shopping, but no one really bought anything. Budgeting has been a bit tough for all of us, but we are figuring it out!
The evenings in Sydney of course included a bit of drinking! J WINE! This is really all anyone can afford to buy in Australia and I am learning to like it more and more! I can't believe I am saying this but I actually love boxed wine! It was very convenient to have the sidebar in the basement of the hostel because then we didn't have to worry about transportation or getting lost in the bar scene in downtown Sydney. We went to a few just to say we did, but stayed at the hostel the majority of the time. Time in Sydney flew by and before we knew it, it was time to jump back on another plane and fly to PERTH!! Fiji and Sydney were amazing, but by this time, we were all ready to settle down somewhere and actually unpack. Living out of a suitcase while carrying 5 months worth of stuff with you is not easy! Especially because we knew we had to get back on more planes and we were all worried we would not be able to pack our stuff back up to weigh less than 50lbs. We survived, but I am glad to finally be getting to Perth!
