DAY 26 (again thats not my pic still need to upload mine)
There were a few sights on my agenda 2day, the memorial of the halifax explosion and seaview park. i figured they werent that far away, the sky was blue it was too warm for nov and i had to wear my sunnies so i'd walk. big mistake! the memorial wasnt too far away . about 40mins walk. it was quite an impressive structure but apart from taking pics there wasnt much to do there, it was just a big memorial with bells sitting in a park. so i carried on towards the seaview park which i thought would be simialar to point pleasant park just at the opposite end of halifax. on the map it looked maybe another 15min walk. i was wrong, it was AGES AWAY!!! i was txting dad and on the verge of turning round but kept going and eventually found it to discover it was pretty much just used as a dogwalking park. the view was really pretty though and i had a walk about then started the long trek back to the hostel. when i eventually reahed the mall kinda half way between the hostel and where i'd just walked i figured i deserved a coffee and donut from tim hortons so i chilled for a bit before heading off back to the hostel. when i reached the road however that took me up 2wards the movies i thought wot the hell theres nothing to do at hostel my feet are sore y not go chill in the movies again, so i did! this time seeing the law abiding citizen which was so so good! gerrard butler was excellent! after the movie a guy was wiaing outside the theatre with vouchers, apparently they had overcharged us to see the film and we all got free movie ticktets. this created a dilema cause to use the voucher i wld have to go back to the movies for a 3rd time, could i do that without feeling incredibly sad lol. decision was made for me when i got back to the hostel to meet a new girl who'd moved into the dorm from england and invited me to go see 2012 with her the next night, well i cldnt refuse when i had a free tickte lol!
DAY 27
I decided to do something educational 2day so i went to the maritime museum of the atlantic. it was quite a big museum and ad exhibits of lots of different things. ot i hadnt realised was that a lot of the people who died on the titanic were actually buried n halifax! the ship sunk 700 nautical miles east of halifax so they were the closet port to provde ships for rescue and to bring the bodies back. there was a video and artifacts that had been recovered, it was quite a moving exhibit! i also didnt know that halifax was the location of the 2nd largest man-made explosion, the first being the atom bomb! i think it was 1917, 2 ships were in the harbour, one going out to sea one coming in and they somehow collided, one of them was full of explosives so they both blew up and the resulting explosion devasted quite a lot of one side of the city, killing quite a few people. there was a really good exhibit on that to. so after spending a few hours in the museum i went for a walk down by the harbour then around the shops then headed back to get ready for the movies.
now i had heard the reviews for 2012 had been bad and it was one of the worst disaster movies ever made but i was going to reserve my judgement till i'd seen it.....they were right! everybody laughed at all the inappropriate bits! the cgi was awful, the scenarios the family got themselves into were unbelievable, it was juts awful! not one i wld recommend! was good to go with the girls fro the dorm though and it was ashame the girl from england wasnt here longer but she was leaving the next day.
DAY 28 Didnt really know wot to do 2day so i went online for a bit then heaaded out to do some shopping. wanted to get myself a souvenier from halifax but cldnt find anything. i did go to nearly every shopping mall lol and ended up buying a few t-shirts and some books to read on the plane. not a very productive day but that night was the night the olympic torch was due to pass through halifax. there was a stage put up in the grand parade grounds and a make-shift ski ramp thing where there were people doing ski and snowboarding tricks. there was a pretty big crowd with different tents scattered around representing some of the sponsors. i went into the coca cola one where u cld sign ur name on a board that was going to be shown in the coca cola sponsor tent thing at the olympics. thought that was pretty cool! i originally went to watch the torch on my own at 5 while i waited for my laundry to finish but met up with jackie, the german girl from my dorm. found out the torch wasnt actually getting there till 7 so i headed back to the hostel to swap my laundry over and head back for 7. one of the other girls, sophie was on her way to watch it to so we went 2gether. it was heaving by the time i go back so finding a good viewing point for the torch was impossible. we got there just in time to find a spot and watch the torch bearer come running down the hill with the torch. was really exciting! there was a little ceremony on the stage where they sang the national anthem and a girls choir sang the olympic song. some rapper guys came on next obviously halifax celebrities but they were awful so after watching some more demos from the snow boaders i headed back to hostel to pack finish laundry and go to bed. DAY 29 Last day in canada 2day :( i had to get up early to check out but was allowed to store my bags till i had to catch the airporter at 8 that night. so i checked out, took my time having my lunch then went online. i had 9 hours to kill and didnt think i'd be able to do it! so after having gone online i needed a coffee so went to tim hortons where i grabbed a coffee, a donut and finished writing my postcards (which i have still to send sorry guys) it was such a nice day i went for a walk in the public gardens like i did on my first day in halifax. it was so pretty though i decided to sit in the park and read my book. time flew by bewfore i knew it i'd been there well over an hour! so i left the park and went to get some food before i headed up to the fort to get some good pics of halifax before i had to leave. i walked round the whole thing and as i did so the sun was starting to set so i made my way down to the harbour cause it was looking pretty from above. it was. a tall ship had arrived since last time i was down there which was stunning and the sunset was so pretty so took lots of pics. i walked along the harbour for quite a while beofre my belly started rumbling and i needed dinner before heading back. so i stopped off at mcds for a quick snack then into second cup for a coffee to keep me going until i got to the airport. when i got back to the hostel there was no one at front desk cause they were on a meal break which freaked me out cause had to leave in 20mins to catch the bus. with 10mins to go the guy still hadnt returned by this time i was starting to panic then all of a sudden he turned up, i got my bags and caught the airporter just in time! i ended being the only person on the bus! had a very intellecual conversation with the driver about scotland v england and politics lol. i was 2 hrs early for my flighht so there was a lot of waiting around. i was just desperate to get on the plane and home.the flight itself was tiring and long but i watched some movies and tv shows so it wasnt too bad. i was so excited about seeing mum and dad again it felt longer than it was.- comments
