Saturday July 23rd Left Chang Mai and took a long bus ride to Chiang Khong. After a few hours we stopped a bathroom brake at a rest stop. The rest stop had a shop called Cabbages and Condoms - which actually sold only two products - cabbages and condoms. Very strange combination. Our next stop was at the White temple which is still in construction. It is so over white, it was built by a wealthy man that apparently was very skilled in business, but severely lacking in taste. However this monstrosity had made this desolate piece of road into a tourist attraction, because people travel here just to look at how hiddeous it is. We arrived in Chiang Khong in the late afternoon. It is a really small town in northern Thailand on the border with Laos. Our guesthouse was right on the Mekong River. It was beautiful. We walked around town which is really just one long street in about 1 hour. Finished the evening with a buffet dinner and watching a James Bond movie!
