We arrived in CANBERRA on the Monday after Dans birthday. At first it seemed like we would have plenty to occupy ourselves with over the two nights we would be spending there. There seemed to be some lovely cafes and street bars and even a few clubs. We later found out that the clubs are only open at the weekends and even the bars are pretty quite in the evenings.
We were pretty tired from our 10 hour coach journey so when we arrived we just relaxed in the YHA where we were staying. It seemed that the few backpackers there were at the hostel were also only visiting Canberra as a stop over between the real great cities of Melbourne and Sydney. On our second day we decided to visit what little there was to see of the city. The highlight of the city is visiting the old and new parliament houses which are a fair distance walk from the hostel and left us both shattered by the end of the round trip as the layout is pretty poor and all the buildings are hard to get to. We are glad we went there as at least we can add it to another place we have visited but really it is a pretty boring 'city' and lives up to its poor reputation.
Both evenings we ate out and enjoyed a drink in the quite bars. It was a shock to see how quiet it was and we were really looking forward to getting on the coach the following day and heading to Sydney!
