Beki and Steves travels
we arrived in Ayutthaya the old capital after taking an air con mini bus for abour 2 hours. We started our rice barge cruise around the city alog its canels. It was amazing the most gorge boat and with a lovely sun deck! the first day we went on a bike ride around the local villages. We stopped off and saw some hats being made and rice fields and saw brinks being made. when we were lookin at these the crazy mechanic dude cycled off and got the famer to harvest the feild just for us! so we all got covered in rice bits. we then cycled around a bit more seeing the local countryside and we ended up at an elephant sanctury where the boat was waiting for us. we watched the elephants bath in the river and then we went back and saw the baby elephants with thier mothers and fed them bags of food and suger cane. They were well looked after though it was still very sad to see the big animals chained up.
we wnet back onto the rice barge where we had an amazing tea of curry soup and fish but of course lots of rice. it was yummy then lots of fruits for pudpud.
we lounged on the sundeck for a bit played mind games scrabble and generally had a relaxing time then went to bed nice n early.
Day 2 we got up early at 6 to take the food offerings to the monks. We each placed a spoonful of rice into the 4 monks bowl and then they chanted a good luck wish for us all. still sleepy eyed we went on another bike ride aruond the countryside. we saw a metal factory at work- lots of big knives at the showroom. Then went to a cereal bar factory (when i say factory they are about the size of a house) they were yummy but had peanuts in so i dnt get any. then we went to look around the ruins whcih were spectacular. to get there the guide took us through the middle of a school who were havin pe with cones which we all followed the guide cycling in and out of them much to the delight of the children and the annoyance of the local teacher. we went back onto the boat for some last sailing before making our way to the guet house were were staying in for the day before the train to chang mai. we had a bit of a swim played marco polo ( taught by auzzie kate) then had a meal at the local market which was yumy but the pinapple drink had a nasty after kick of salt so was undrinkable.
then we boarded the night train to Chaing mai. An experiece never to be forgotten. I lukced out and ended up on th top bunk wth the constantly shining light so when i woke up in the night i kept thinking it was morning. it was realy jerky aswel and u were constantly jolted awake as you felt like the train was coming off the tracks!
but we arrived safely and after an ordeal or two (like using the loo which went straight onto the tracks) we made it.
