Beki and Steves travels
we went to the olgas today. we woke up with the sun and got our swag bags rolled, ate brekkie and left quickly. after a hour or so we arrived and started the valley of the winds walk which was spectacular. it took around 2 hours and the sights were fantastic ( see photos) we clamberd over rocks and looked over them from viewpoints. we reallly got talking with the group and it was fnatastic. Chris was energetic as ever telling us how it was formed and the geology. one girl asked if scuba divers could look under ayres rock(uluru) to reseasrch more....... ( remember we are in the desert....) silly billy.
we then went on to the rock. getting some wkd photos before doing the base walk. we had the opportunity to climb if we wanted to however there are loads of signs saying not to because of cultural reasons. the indiginous people dont want you to climb, however quite a few people did. it is a shame really as lots of tourist do and it is the equivalent of jumping up and down on notre dame alter, you just dont do it.
The base walk was fantastic anyway. we saw lots amazing sites which were sacred and as we respected the wished there are no photos of these sites, however they were just symbolic parts of the rock.
after this we went to the sunset viewing area and to our surprise steph and steve were there!!! we got obligatory photos nabbed a glass of wine and had a good chat. All the other groups had wine and champage but we were beer. we also had a full meal in the carpark ( on the floor) where as everyone else had cheese. it was so ace we were living it rough! the changing colour of the rock was fantastic. it changes every7 mins when the sun is coming up and going down.
OUr group was the last to leave the viewing area and then went strainght to the ampsite where we played a few games ( picking the box up in your mouth without touchign the floor with anything other than your feet.) beki got to the 2nd to last round and managed to attempt the splits! picking up a piece of paper ( all that was left of the box)
we toasted marshmellows and had some talk then watched the stars seeing a few shooting ones.
it was so hot beki slept on the top of the swag bag scary stuff but wasnt bitten at all! not even by mosquitoes!
