Said farewell to Singapore and headed to Bangkok to meet Anj, invloving green curry and a bit too much chang beer for our early morning flight to Hanoi, Vietnam. Took flight number 15 to Hanoi and began our month of Vietnamness. First stop...Hanoi, involving a million motorbikes, to cross the road involves ignoring all rules of road crossing and walking into traffic (as well as clutching Anj's hand)! Here we found some of the best food ever, eaten on small plastic stools in the road, judging places as the grubbier the more likely the food will be awesome! Saw the many sights, including the preserved body of Ho Chin Minh, lots of walking and the introduction to vietnamese coffee, sure to rot your teeth off!
Headed out to find some fresh air in the shape of one Halong Bay, on a boat for an overnight stop. Beautiful sceneary, sunshine and some kayaking at sunset. Good escape from the craziness of Hanoi, however headed back briefly before heading to Sapa, right in the north. Yet again more stunning views of mountains, hills, rice paddies and meeting many tribeswomen, trying to sell you their many wares! Did a few days of trekking around the local villages. Back to Hanoi again for a quick change to go to Ninh Binh, heading south. Took a trip on the river with women paddling the boats with their feet...definatly a skill! Aswell as some mototaxi rides across the expanse of rice paddies. Visited the National Park and saw the endagered primate centre, yes more monkeys on my travels! Continued south to Hue, where we met the rain of the south, downpour is not the word. Despite this saw the sights, all poncho-ed up, and I will continue to do my sun dance in the hope we will find it again! Meanwhile will keep eating the amazing pho bo (beef noodle soup) which is now a necessity in my daily routine!
