Not originally part of the plan, randomly decided that a trip to Borneo might be fun!
Headed off from Singapore on Octobers flight number 6 and ventured to Sabah in north Borneo (Malaysian bit). Forgot two things about SE Asia 1) how you get treated for being western 2) how you get treated for being female! Reminded of these facts when attempted to book a bus to the east of the island and was swarmed by a seagull like flock of touts! However managed to find some space and get a bus to Sandakan. Not the most exciting place to stay but a useful base for my first day of orangutanness!
Visited the sepilok orangutan rehabilitation centre, rehab for orphaned orangutans as a result of deforestation. Saw them at two feeding times when they pop by from the jungle to get some treats, amazing! In between feeds visited the rainforest discovery centre with some uber big trees, plants and jungly stuff!
Headed to the Kinabatangan river to see some more wildlife and saw some wild proboscis monkeys, when our boat finally got going! First it broke down and we were paddled back to shore with a broom! Not that comforting in crocodile infested waters! As for the monkeys, very funny looking! Interesting noses! Google it, you'll see!
Back to the capital to visit some tropical islands, see some sun before getting drenched in rain (seriously it is following me!). And a jungle trek where I saw a spider the size of my face! Definatly not over my fear of spiders!! Urgh! Consoled myself with some dinner at the night Market, some of the best food yet! Back to Singapore after a whistlestop trip of Borneo, quick pick up of an Anj in Bangkok then onward to Vietnam!
