June 10th
Got up and checked out and got a taxi to the bus station where we had breakfast that was a weird bread cake thing that had mashed potatoe and chicken in it. strange but tasted ok. got on the bus and had a 3 hour trp to KL - kuala lumpur. we got there and had a couple of hours to sort stuff out and get some lunch from the local market beofre we were to start a tour of KL. got some new sunnies which i paid 3 quid for was very happy with that and then we headed back to start our tour. we had a trip to the batu caves which is at very steep climb to the top of a hill and a hindu temple which is hidden inside the cave. cheeky monkeys amble around the place so you have to be careful not too loose anything to them. we then headed back down and over to the Pewter factory where we learnt all about pewter and how it was made and had a go at steel bashing which was quite good fun. then we headed over to the chocolate factory where they make all kinds of funky chocolate which most of tasted really nice apart from this skanky fruit that you can only find over here but is banned everywhere on public transoprt cos even in its skin it smells of babies nappies and im not joking! then we were meant to go to to the national mosque but our driver sucked and took the wrong road so we missed out on that one. got back to the hotel and got showered and changed. we then headed out to a korean restaurant for tea which was very tasty and then went outside to see an amazing view of the petronus towers. we then went up some tower to an open air very posh bar to see the view from there and i can tell you that KL when its all lit up is stunning. we headed back down after a drink and went to a reggae bar where we had drinks for a quid and then eventually I headed back to the hotel as i felt like poo (i hadn't drank that much i was still full of cold)

up at around half 9 and headed out for breakfast - had KFC which was not very nice but the grease was definitly appreciated - they dont seem to do bacon and egg sarnies out here! then we heasded back and went to the central mall which was really good - had loads of antique boutiques taht were cheap and good to look around in. got a chance to buy some cool pressies as well. then we came back to the hotel and then decided to wander over to the national mosque but we couldn't get in cos it was prayer time. then we got the MRT over to the petronus tower after getting some lunch. we then wandered over to the sky tower but couldn't actually be bothered to go up it as we seem to have done everyother blooming tower in the world so thought that we could give this one a miss. we then wandered back to the hotel to get showered and changed for tea and a group meeting. had tea at a malay/chinese restaurant which was nice and then went trhought the night market (which by the way we had bought a bunch of stuff at the night before - i now have a cool gucci bag, purse and sunnies and lau bought herself some new sunnies as well) then back to the reggae bar for a drink then we headed back to the hotel to go to bed.

got up nice and early to be able to get tickets to go up the patrous towers (cant spell - appologies). we left jo and emma to get the tickets while we went up to get breaky from somewhere else. after that we headed down to find that we had a ticket to get tickets as the que had been so big. we got our tickets and then waited for our tickets to be ready then joined the que again! eventually we were given some dodgy 3D glasses and shown into a movie theatre. we watched a short dvd and then had to go through a security check to go up the tower in a lift that traveled up 41 floors in less that 40 seconds. when we got out on to the deck we were given 10 minutes to have a look around before having to leave. it was a bit of an anti climax to be honest but hey was interesting way to spend a morning. we then went to grab a coffee before catching the MRT back to the hostle. we got back finished packing and then back to the bus station to catch a bus to take us to the pick up point for our first homestay. when we arrived we got picked up and taken to a river where we were met by a boat which in turn took us to the island which would become our home for the next few days. we arrived around 5 and had a couple of hours to kill before dinner. me and lau chilled out with our books but because we were living with a muslim family no sunbathing was aloud as it was covered shoulders and knees or nothing! had a really nice dinner where we tried a bunch of malay dishes and then we were taught how to play a traditional malay board game which i played against matt - seems to go on for ever so we paused it at midnight as we were all farely tired. when we got back to our room we were met my a huge spider, were talking side plate size. laura screamed, i screamed at laura to stop screaming so i could kill it which made her scream more and then i scremed more at her to be quite! there was a lot of screaming and eventually a squished spider!! had to do a million spider checks before getting into bed!
will write more later xxx
