Day 3 in Singapore!
Well last night we went for another tootle around Singapore and wandered around looking for Orchard road, Raffles as well as Suntec city as apparently it has the largest fountain in the world. So we wandered, and wandered and eventually found Suntec City, and Raffles (actually found the hotel this time!) and then ended up getting very hungry so went for some tea at this asian kitchen type of thing - it had about 10 different types of asian types of food, such as thai, indonesian and others. I had the Pho Noodles with chicken and Laura had a Pinapple Rice dish. By the time we had eaten our meals and felt very very full, we decided to walk home as we could not be bothered with looking for orchard road anymore. After we got home we went and sat on the rooftop garden and read for a bit as it was very pretty and nice and warm still (a small hahaha to all of you still in the UK where it is not quite so warm at 11 pm!). after an hour we decided to go down and sort out are rucksacks and then get ready for bed.
This morning we got up at half 8 (not nice at all after another rubbish nights sleep- which included waking up at half 4 to find the main light switch on (think I must have been sleep-light-switching-on or something)) and got our selveds ready for a very very long day ahead. We had to check out at 10 so we packed up, went downstairs, put our luggage in the locker things and then went on our merry way to have a bit more of an investigate before we had to get back to the hostle for our flight. Armed with our 1.5 litre bottles of water and half a tube of pringles, we headed into the town centre in search of Orchard Road (AGAIN!!) and headed down past the National Museum again. Laura spotted a sign saying 1 Orchard Road - apparently we had been walking down in most of last night without realising it! Turns out that we were at the bottom end and still could have gone further up the top but we decided to leave that for now and do it when we come back next time (ie - in June). We then wandered down past the universities and past Raffles in the hunt to find this massive fountain in the middle of Suntec City. We'd found the location last night, just we had not actually been in it yet. found the fountain - massive big ring thing but it wasn't switched on or whatever it is that they do a fountain to make it work. After seeing where the fountain should have been, we went for a walk along the Marina which was a building site. They are in the process of making a walkway and another road to link the main land with Sentossa Island so there were cranes and diggers everywhere. After walking a bit further a long here, it opened up into a nicer area where you could see a lot of the big landmarks that we have seen on foot. We followed this path along and walked towards the Raffles Landing site (which was a bit dissapointing as we were expecting more than just a statue of Mr Raffles) and then past the houses of Parliment back to Raffles City (which is a big posh shopping plaza) to have some lunch - 3 courses and a drink and unlimited bread cost us $9.50 each - a bit over 3 quid!
After lunch we decided to head into Little India again to peruse the markets to see if there was any bargins but only came away with a couple of postcards. This was at 1.30pm over here and we were boiling, sweaty and to be honest our feet were sore so we decided to come back to the hostel, blag our way onto the internet and have a bit of a rest before lugging our rucksacks down to the MRT in Little India (a 5/10 walk away which I'm sure will feel like a 5/10 mile walk!) so that we can get our flight to brisbane this evening.
So, that was our day so far. We're still to do a couple of things when we come back in June but thought we had better wait til then otherwise we'd have done everything. so for the next couple of hours we are going to watch Castaway on the TV and then go get our evil bags.
Its just decided to start thudering and lightening but no rain - touch wood no rain!
Love you all xxxxxxxxxxx
