SO im in Wellington - better explain how i got here!
Tuesday 13th - we had a plan - the plan didnt work so instead we decided to make our way to the sky tower and see what there is to see! we could see quite a bit actually and saw the sky tower jump which was a bit on the pathetic side really - it was juts cables that u would fall down fairly slowly - bit naff to be honest. anyway we then decided it would be a good idea to climb a volcanoe! so we headed to the ferry terminal and caught a ferry to Ragitoto Island which is a Dormant volcanoe off the coast of Auckland. so we headed up it - an hours walk apparently - took us 35 minutes and it was quite tough going! anyway we then went and got to the summit to have a look from up there. the views were amazing - so nice and quiet as well - that was once alkl theschool kids on a school trip had gone! so we then headed around the crater and then back down to the bottom to catch the ferry home. we then went to the cinema as our plans for that evening back fired as well - we wanted to see Pricilla queen of the desert or go skiing - was not to be! so we went to see Definitly Maybe which was really good. went back to the hostel, packed and headed to bed
Wed 14th
Got up nice and early and had breakfast before going to go and stand in the cold and wait for the magic bus to come and pick us up and take us on a bit of a tour (well - the first part of our tour around NZ). we got on our bus and we were the last group to get picked up! we soon discovered that our bus was no ordinary bus - we had a group of lads from exeter uni (and their mates) who were loud and absolutely hilarious. so off we went up the mountain to mt eden in auckland and did a photo stop before heading off down and out of auckland - they sceenery here is stunning- words can not describe how nice it is and my camera refuses to do it any justice! we then stopped at Mt Pako and did another climb up and photo op. after this we headed down the Coromandel peninsula and headed across the river Thames (ha! they stole that from us cos they think that theres looks like the one in london - i beg to differ!) anyway so we got lunch but i decided a coffee was a good idea - NEVER AGAIN. steaming hot coffee and i trip over my feet and end up wearing it instead of drinking it. i have the scar to proove it as well. then off we went again to Whitianga which you pronounce the WH as F ad then saw Cathedral cove which was featured a lot in the Narnia films and some of the LOTRs films i think. so after wed done that we headed to the hostel after going sightseeing round all the posh houses with boats outside - straight on to the canel (as you do!) we then checked into our hostel, went to the superduper market to get stuff for tea and then headed on to bed! very long day on a coach.
Thursday 15th
Got up really early as had to get on the bus to head to Waitomo. we discovered on the bus that we would be spending the night in Waitomo instead of heading onto Rotura like orignally planned as our driver had messed up! but hey. so we stopped at a rabbitt shearing place. yes u read that right a Rabbitt shearing place. they breed angora rabbits and then shave their hair off to make wooly jumpers etc (and no mum its not so the rabbits can wear them!) was preetty funny to be honest thou watching these insanely fluffy rabbits getting all there hair taken off. they were binded almost with bungys strapped round their legs (and its not inhumane as we were told as they have checks done by the NZ version of the RSPCA. so after that we went to our hostel, checked in and got some lunch then headed out on a walk with our bus driver eric to look at some caves. then we got dropped off at these caves that had a heap of glow worms in them. was a bit different - laura seemed to think that the glow worms weren't actually glow worms and that they were fairy lights instead! the caves were brilliant thou as it was the perfect opportunity to scare the living daylights out of people (laura especially!) as it was pitch black. all u had to do was pretend something was running up/down their back and they cream out loaud. we'd been told to be really quiet so that made it evern funnier! on the way back we decided it would be a good idea to go to the pub! pint of cider and a few other drinks later we went back to get tea and to play on the trampoline and swing on swings and tease the boys in the hot tub! so after tea, amy (one of the girls out on the bus with us) taught me how to do POI which is normally done with fire but for trainning purposes its done with tennis balls attached to string and u can do differnt tricks with them. was quite good if i do say so myself. we then headed to the pub (again) and met the boys for a few drinks. we ended up playing drinking games against the Kiwi bus (a boat race) which was very dangerous and resulted in me throwing up the pint that i had just bought. NOT HAPPY! anyway after that i stuck to water (understandably!) was still a brilliant night. we met Matt and becky who were in fiji with us on the Wana Taki boat in the pub in Waitomo which was weird as the place was so SO small! headed to bed not long after that!
Friday 16th
the bus wasnt going to be arriving til 3 so we had a long leisurely mooch around the place, going on the net, chatting enjoying the sun etc then we got on the bus at 3 and headed down to Roturua. checked in to our hostel and then headed to a maori concert that was amazing - was soooo good - definitly recommend it u get a chance. the dancing, the singing the haka and the food was brilliant. learnt quite a bit from it. we then headed down to a bar called Hot Rocks which was pretty good. had a couple of drinks and a boogy with laura, amy, chloe, woody, mark and chris. was really good fun. then headed home to bed!
