Day 41 & 42
The last two days of Ios were very much the same, a lot beaching and a lot of bar hopping. Then again who would want to change the perfect day.
On Saturday we headed to the south of the island, to check out Manganari Beach. This was suppossedly the most chilled beach on the Island, exactly what we needed after the past couple of days. After a 45 minute bus ride, we were aching to get out there, however our stomachs had other priorities. We stuffed down a full English breakfast and moments later we were on the beach. It lived up to all expectations with Perfect water, amazing sand and very few tourists. As there was only one bus that went there and back per day our trip had to end at 6 despite our want to stay on all night.
A shloff, some tv and we were off again, out to dinner nearby that unfortunately turned out to be really disappointing. But that didn't spoil the night completely, we headed to the pubs and turned it all around.
We hit all the same pubs again with a couple new ones but to answer what you all want to know... Yes I earnt another t-shirt. The night was a bit quieter than our last but that still didn't stop us from walking back in at about 4.
On our last day of Ios we did the same as every other and headed to the beach. Back to the touristy Mylopotas we went, which was packed as usual. People on their boats offshore were blasting tunes loudly and proudly. This included one boat playing "Zorba the Greek" to which many on the shore joined in.
Besides the customary frisbee, wababa and beach bats competitions we changed the day up a bit by going on a bit of a guided boat ride. They took us to do some cliff diving which at first looked pretty tame. However after climbing this beast of a rock, we all got a bit nervy but managed to each take the plunge twice.
We then went to do some snorkeling at what we found to be a nudist beach. Whilst there wasnt much to see in regards to fish and animals, the clear blue water unfortunately revealed many "sea snakes" froliking on the beach and in the water nearby
Wrapping off the trip we went to snorkel on a shipwreck deep down in the water. Whilst you couldn't get close to the boat, the water was so amazingly clear you could see everything from on top. The blueness of water amused me for ages, so much so that I only left due to us running out of time.
Back home we went for a quick dip in the pool and then back to our room for a good nap. We wanted to get any sleep we could as the night ahead, our last night, would not be a short one.
We woke up at 11 and headed into town for a bite. We got our first decent sit down meal in Ios consisting of burgers named after celebrities. Amongst the orders was a Chuck Norris which of course was a beast.
We swung past the Aviv boys place to fetch them before making our way to Ali Baba's. Here we got a couple of "fishbowls" (a take off on Thailand buckets) with huge straws which got us pumped up for the night. What made the drinks even more fun were the challenges from the girls next to us, the Israeli guy who served the bowls to us (see picture) and the failblog films constantly playing in the background.
Back to orange bar we went, this time
For Twix shots which were amazing as always. Coo bar, Slammer, Shooters, Muse and Jäger Bar were also visited during the night, just to name a few.
Throughout the evening it felt like we hadn't left home. Around every corner were more people we knew, Moriah, Emanuel, Melbourne, Sydney and everyone else seemed to just be Aussie anyway. It was crazy to see how many people had the made the trip over to Europe and happened to be in the same place at the same time.
After we were all pubbed out, we headed down to the "Creperie" (The actual name not my interpretation.) meeting all the Moriah girls. There Arryn talked me into a White chocolate and strawberries crepe. Whilst I'm not a big crepe eater, to anyone who goes to Ios that is an absolute must. That crepe made my my night, especially because as the cook served to me he said, "This is more than just a crepe, its a poem to me".
It was a fantastic last day and an amazing city to have been in. Tomorrow to Santorini, the last Greek island of the trip. :(
