so, yesterday wasnt the best of days... where do i begin?
1. the powers that be decided to give me an extra 9 classes to teach. some people got an extra 6, others didnt even get any! wtf? i definitely was NOT thrilled. not cool at all.
2. when you think of schools in asia, you have this picture in your head of little kids in perfect little rows, listening to every word the teacher says without a peep, furiously writing into their notebooks. WRONG! i have one class full of monsters. MONSTERS! imagine that kid in your class growing up that was a complete monster: never sat down, never did his work, yelling and screaming, hitting other students. now, imagine a whole class full of them. 33 little monsters running around while you're trying to give them an english lesson=not fun. i've tried EVERYTHING (save from hitting them myself), extra homework, pop quizzes, being kicked out of the lesson... everything, and these kids won't shut the f*** up and let me f***ing teach! it's seriously ridiculous. ive become that teacher that i hated growing up! never lets you have fun... just work work work and drills. no games EVER (because they definitely do NOT deserve to play any games after how horrible and disrespectful they are). i think im going to start a new thing: detention. well see how they like that!
3. we had our fancy, smancy school lunch yesterday because it was the CEO's birthday. no fishballs and rice! that meant roasted duck, pork lo mein, spring rolls, cake and even rum raisin ice cream! i was soooo excited about this meal. it was going to be fantastic... until while getting served my lunch, i noticed not everyone got this fantabulous meal. there i was in line for all this delicious food, and little ways away, i could see the maids (thats what theyre called including the chocolate milk man) sitting there watch us get this food that were not even going to appreciate, and they didnt get any. not a single drop... because they are "lower class." i wanted to sooo badly go over there, and give him my food because i knew he would like it and appreciate it a hundred times more than i ever will, but i couldnt because thats not allowed. some fantastic celebration. by the end, i was about to cry because i thought it was so cruel. in the end, i finished every damn morsel of that food even if i didnt want to (well except the duck blood... nothing will make me eat that) because i would rather feel sick from eating too much than have them watch me eat some of it, throw the rest away in front of them and then clean my dish for me right after. talk about most depressing lunch ever!
4. i am seriously allergic to insect bites. if i get bitten by any insect (esp. mosquitos or spiders), the bite swells up and becomes painful and overall not fun. over the weekend, i dont know what bit me, but the bite had become soo big (over 10 cm in diameter) and swollen that it has taken a deep purple colour. apparently in thailand, you can pretty much get anything OTC including prozac and birth control, but not oral steroids. if things dont get better soon, my next posting will be about my trip to the hospital for the first time in thailand.
highlights of the week: found a fantastic whiskey to replace jack daniels while im away from the us of a. also, i went to the poshest place i have ever been to in my life with the most amazing view of bangkok. will take anyone who comes to visit me there... its amazing!
up and coming: ill be taking a couple weekenders to different parts of thailand in the next few weeks. look forward to another post, and perhaps pictures (if im not lazy or my camera doesnt get stolen)
